Brake Controller for Subaru Outback

Hi, I am new to this site.; so there may be old postings addressing my question. If so, please guide me to them. Have just acquired a slightly used Outback with Subaru trailer hitch. The latter has a 4 pin connector. I intend to buy a 13' Scamp. Any thoughts on an electric brake controller for my Subaru?

Controller Inst.

A Prodigy or P-3 are good controller as are any made by that Mfg. (Tekonsha) You will also need wiring and other stuff. The E trailer wiring kit is really good and has most everything you need. Saves a lot of running around and research.

Outback Brake Controller

Thanks for the suggestion. Actually, Tekonsha suggested an installer here in Arlington, MA, that I will contact to-morrow, after the July 4 long week-end. Richrd Lacroix

Outback brake controller

Check to be sure the Outback has a 2" receiver. My 2012 Outback stock dealer hitch was a 1-1/4" that had to be cut off to install an aftermarket 2" receiver hitch. Also, be sure the brake controller wiring and power wire can actually be done. The four dealers I asked said they would not touch the 7-pin and brake controller. Hopefully your guy can come through.

Class I hitch

1-1/4” may be OK with some Scamps. A Class I hitch usually has a 1-1/4" square receiver opening and class I hitches are weight carrying hitches rated up to 2000 lbs. gross trailer weight (GTW) with a 200 lbs. maximum trailer tongue weight.
