Storm/Hail

Hi to all fellow Scampers:  This is the naive me.  There was a hefty storm and tornado in the near by community of Princeton/Zimmerman, MN.  I did hear there was also hail in places.  Intend to travel north and check the Scamp out.  Just curious, Would a fiberglass shell possibly incur damage I should be looking for?  Thanks, Barb

Hail

In response to your question, I can offer some insight from a personal perspective.  In 2015 we traveled to South Dakota to see Mount Rushmore and the other sights in that area.  We stayed at the Horse thief Campground in Hill City.  Although the weather was generally fine during the day, we experienced numerous storms over night.  Over the course of four consecutive nights, we experienced three severe hail storms in our new 2015 Scamp 16.  As a result we incurred some minor dents in the Air Conditioner cover, a crack in the refrigerator vent, and one cracked rivet cap.  My Jeep Grand Cherokee tow vehicle, on the other hand, sustained about $3500 in damage to the roof and hood, and cracked my windshield.  All said, I thought the Scamp did just fine.  However, it's tough being on the inside with all of that going on.  The noise of the hail hitting the trailer was terrifying, to say the least.  Shake some rocks in a small can and you will get the idea.  Many of the other rigs in the park had damage to vent covers, awnings and such, and one Airstream looked like a golf ball!  The Scamp did way better than the Airstream.

Storm/hail

The hail is not the problem. Yes, it will damage things, but if there is hail there is usually high wind. The wind flips RVs, knocks down trees and kills people. Know your area (what county are you in) and campground storm shelter locations, and never travel without a weather radio that has an alarm to wake you up.
