We should be getting a call from Scamp to begin the build soon any time now as we are a month away from the quoted finish. Do you have any suggestions on what to ask or add to the build when they call? We didnt get the air conditioner or furnace, but go the bigger fride. No side dinette either. We'd like to have a clean roof with no chance of leaks, but they now put a vent on the roof for the bathroom. Looking back do you wish you had done something different or changed? Thanks

Expecting a Scamp call soon to begin. Suggestions?
1. Keep the Stinky Slinky tube off the front
2. No curtain rods (less holes through shell)
3. Vinyl floors easy to clean
4. Brakes..Brakes..brakes
5. Did I say electric brakes
How do you hang curtains without the curtain rods? Is there another way of attaching the rods to the inside of the camper?

Hi Tony and Karen: Our Scamp had curtain rods, but in the course of my RV research I have seen "curtains" that have been attached with Velcro. Velcro does stick to the wall fabric. Tension rods don't work well in this case. If you have cabinets above the windows, attaching them there might be a possibility. Barb and John
I ordered my Scamp with no rod holders because I didn't want all those holes.
I have been fairly successful in mounting the rod holders that they gave me (but did not rivet to the body).
For the side bed windows I mounted them to the upper cabinets in different ways (still experimenting).
For the back window rod holders, drapery hooks into the rat fur seem to work OK.
Is this actually a problem? Campers leaking where the curtain rods are attached? It would seem to me that after making these campers for 45 years, Scamp would have developed a system of mounting without leaks. Our Scamp is on order and we are discussing the curtain rod issue. Karen is really looking forward to making her own curtains and new cushion covers and isn't excited about attaching curtain rods to the rat fur or hanging them from the side cabinets. Are there folks out there who have had no issues with leaks where the curtain rods are attached? Anthony and Karen!

Our "Lil Critter" is a 2005 (pre-fire) model with all the standard holes . We have 246,000 trailer miles on her. We pull her around the U.S. and Canada year round...winter and summer. No rivet hole leaks yet.
Last year we replaced most of the snap cap covers. If it leaks now, I will blame myself not Scamp.

As long as you maintain the snap caps/rivets over the years you'll not experience leaks at those points. When I get a used older Scamp, one of the first things I do is replace rivets/snap caps as they usually haven't been maintained, then I know it's good to go for a long time.

Any hole in the shell can leak, esp after the camper is a few years old. (I had a number of leaks in a brand new Scamp) Not to mention the eventual need (or desire) to replace the snap caps as they age. I personally prefer as few holes in the shell as possible and I wish I had ordered the camper with no escape hatch (BIG hole) and without the bathroom vent (since I have yet to use the shower, moisture in the bathroom is not a problem for me).
Of course people have gone for years with no leaks at the curtain rod holder rivets.. but leaks can be hard to detect and locate - a real headache.
Curtains in the Scamp are over rated anyway.. they offer very little privacy and could not be cheaper. That is why so many people change them out or do something different, esp. if they want "black-out" window treatment.
It's really not hard to figure a way to mount the rod holders on the rear side cabinets. The rear window is more difficult and while I found that upholstery hooks in the rat fur work OK, it would be fine to have the rod holders riveted in here (thats only four more holes). The door curtain rod holders are screwed into the wood part of the door so they do not penetrate the shell (unless you use screws that are too long of course). I have no need for curtains for the front window since I use the rock shied instead. For the small starboard side middle window I got some cling-on privacy window film that more or less matches the frosted glass on the opposite side window. This has been fine for me and I never put a curtain up at this window.
We like the curtains that came with our 2015 standard 13 Scamp. We think they look nice and do what they are supposed to do. That is, the curtains keep people outside from looking in. They are not meant to be "room darkening". We like that light comes through the curtains so that in any daytime conditions we can see and don't have to use the lights. Saves the battery!. As I have said in other posts we take the gravel shield off when ever possible to enhance the bright cheeriness inside. If and when we get leaks around the curtain rod attachments I will replace the rivets with through bolts, (with acorn nuts on the inside) new snap-caps, and use a good marine grade sealer.
Being they no longer use the bathroom small window is there any concern with the roof vent leaking?
I wondering if they have fallen behind as of late? I havent got a call from them yet and its suppose to be done in 3 weeks according to their quote.
