Battery and Power.

I know similar topics have been covered but I could not find one exactly the same so here goes....I recently bought a used 1994 Scamp and LOVE IT! I do have a quick question....Shortly after purchasing the Scamp I brought it home and worked to clean and fix it up. Everything worked great. But after I took it out for the first trip, the 12v lights stopped working. Even when plugged in. After looking over everything, I noticed the battery connection had broken off. I went to the store and got a new battery and connection to repair it. It now seems to work again. The question I have is why it stopped working when hooked up to power. It worked fine at my home & the battery it was hooked too was dead. REAL DEAD. Is it because the battery was not hooked up? Could it be because the circuit was not completed or do you think this is a bigger problem? I don't want the thing to catch fire.

Thanks,

Scott

12 Volt System Not Working

The way you described the problem it was probably the broken connection that caused all of your 12 volt systems to fail.

Even though your old battery was "Dead", it still completed the electrical circuit. When your cable broke it created an open circuit and that is probably why your systems did not work (even though you were plugged in).

This theory is most probable if it was the negative cable that broke.

In theory, you should be able to remove the battery and plug in the Scamp and have all of your 12 volt systems available. This all depends on the connection point(s) of your Converter.

You should completely check out the electrical system before your next excursion, since you do not know how the previous Owner(s) modified the electrical system.

As Always,

Happy Scamping !!!
