Ahoy fellow Scamp owners, excited to join the club!
Just got myself a 13' Scamp from 1985, via a dealership in KY. Had it shipped out to me (took about 4 days) in CA.
Once I got around to inspecting the inside, I quickly discovered a mouse nest in the far front left corner of the bench/bunk. I am going to put in allure flooring and paint with Kilz, so I decided to rip out all the benches as well. I ended up finding 2 more mouse nets and Stuart Little himself (RIP).
Question for ya'll:
1. Does the dealer have a responsibility for the fact that there was a rodent infestation? I'm happy with the trailer, but not with the mouse, and the water damage I've discovered as well (rotting portions of floor).
2. What can be done about the rotted portions of floor? Is there a technique to cut out just the rotted parts and then fill it with something?
Thanks!
Jon
Scamp Ahoy!
1. I would doubt you have much of a recourse. Buying a camper is not unlike buying a car, in this case an old used one. They probably wiped the countertops clean, hosed off the outside, but not much more. Read the sales agreement. Also, Scamp sells the new ones directly, exclusively. As far as the mouse crap, I would vacuum thoroughly, then wash and wet/dry vacuum and dry out. Some ways to keep critters out are with mothballs, dryer sheets, or similar, if you can deal with that smell yourself.
2. Between this club and the fiberglass rv forum you will find a wealth of information and advice about all kinds of repair, floor included.
Good luck!
