Winterizing

I recently winterized my Scamp for the first time, but am concerned about it being done thoroughly.  For instance, Scamp did not say to run the RV antifreeze through the hot water lines (bypassing the water heater).  How do I know for sure that there is no water remaining in the hot water lines?  Does it really drain back into the water heater and then out the hole where the anode rod was?  Also, when I drained the water tank, there was still some water remaining in the tank.  If I put the RV antifreeze into the tank, it would mix with the remaining water and be diluted.  It looks like the water is pumped from the back of the tank, so I jacked up the front of the trailer and ran the water pump until no more water came out of the cold faucets.  Then I put the RV antifreeze in the water tank and pumped it through the faucets and poured additional RV antifreeze down the drains.  I also released water from the city water connection.  Does this sound like I did a thorough job or is there something else I should do?

Water heater holds six gallons

So I just turn off the flow to the water heater and pull the plug on the out side, but I have the old one valve system. With the hot faucet open on the sink it should drain the tank completely. (I hope) Have you watched the three Scamp (2012 and 2019) winterizing videos and the new bypass levers video?  BTW do not trust the socket size, things get changed with age, and if you remove your battery, take a picture so you hook it up correctly next year.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-q3gimBpyw

I have the new bypass levers

My Scamp is a 2022 13' with the new 3 shut off valve system.  Since I am able to bypass the water heater with those valves, I don't see why I can't run the RV antifreeze through the hot water lines.  I think I will do that, just to be sure there isn't any water trapped in those lines that can freeze. In the spring, I will be sure to run plenty of fresh water through the system to flush out any RV antifreeze before opening the valves and running water into the water heater.  You are correct about the socket size.  Mine is 1 1/16"...not the 7/8" and 15/16" sockets that were mentioned in the videos.  Also, since I will have my Scamped plugged into shore power all winter, I will not disconnect or remove the battery.

The water heater bypass

I would run the antifreeze in the hot lines also. I'm glad to see that Scamp has gone to a real bypass. I had that in my last two RVs.Just be sure to get the heater tank empty. I always used the pressure relief valve to vent it, but others say not too.

I also ran RV antifreeze through the hot water lines

I just ran the RV antifreeze through the hot water lines.  There was clear water before it turned pink, which tells me there was water in the lines that could have frozen.  I think Scamp should update the winterizing procedure, now that the water heater can be bypassed.
