rivets

Thanks for all your help Greg. One more question, when I am riveting, I will drill all the way through (from the outside through the wall covering inside)?  Previous owner must have replaced the wall covering because no rivets are visible inside. I also took your advice and ordered the new axle with electric brakes and new rims and tires. I've had the cushions reupholstered and am working on the cabinets and doors. She's beginning to look pretty sharp but I'm sure I'll have more questions! Thanks again and I will post some pics later.

drilling rivets

No you don't want to drill all the way through. That has a high risk of widening the hole or additional damage. You just drill the head of the rivet off from the outside then use a punch or small phillips head and tap the rivet through.  You can also use pliers on the inside to pull the rivets through. You should be able to see the rivets d on the inside around those windows by just lifting back the liner.  When you rivet the window back in, I'd recommend if there is room using a stainless backing washer on the rivet before you pop it. Adds quite a bit of strength and helps prevent any glass damage.

Window sizes

Various windows that Scamp has used over the years are not inter-changable.

I happen to have the sliders on my 2001 Scamp which were used until just a few years ago.   Now they are installing the New Louvred windows.  Very nice looking and don't make the trailer look outdated as the old aluminum louvres did.

I got excited and thought about changing from sliders to louvres.  Well, the new windows are not the same size.  If I recall when I measured, the new windows are slightly narrower and would leave a gap on the sides.  I don't recall but the height seemed similar.

I do have Window-Maxx's on my sliders which don't bother me at all and work just fine. So, that's how "Puff" will have to stay.

The window on the driver's

The window on the driver's side is gone. Just piece of plexiglass. Ive seen where I can order cranks and other parts but I pretty much need the entire window. Any thoughts?

I have found similar louvered

I have found similar louvered windows to buy, but I have not found one the right size.  I suppose you could have one custom-made to size.

Note my comments above re what we did in restoring our '74 SCAMP 13'.

In your photo, the frame appears to be ok. The louvers can easily be removed from the frame (they are held to the frame by two small screws on each side). You can have the plexiglass replaced (with glass, plexiglass or lexan) by any glass shop. We had ours done--for a few dollars--at a local True Value hardware.

I do think to do this job right, you will need to remove the entire window from the trailer.  That will enable you to see how the frame is put together, take it apart as needed (e.g., to remove the framed screen), paint it,etc.  This is not hard to do: the process involves drilling out the existing rivets...a process described well elsewhere on this site.

Replacing a window

When we recently picked up our Scamp in storage at a farm our side back aluminum louver window to our 1983 19 ft 5th wheel Scamp was gone. We suspect it came off last Fall going from Idaho to Minnesota and we never saw it, if that is possible. Does anyone have a recommendation of where to get a window rebuilt? We've babies this camper so far.
