Trapped/locked inside a Scamp

I got locked in/trapped in our Scamp on the last trip.  I have a 2012 16-ft Deluxe.  The door handle and lock were a bit sticky.  Note that I replaced the door handle and lock about 2 years ago.  I think it is possible that I locked the handle and pulled it shut behind me.  On pre-2018 Scamps, there is not a way to unlock the door from the inside, at least that I can see.  I was not eager to climb out the escape hatch.  So, I took off the screen on the back sliding window and looked for someone to give the keys to and unlock the door.  I did not see anyone so I climbed out the back window.  That works if one is slim and agile.  Unfortunately, I discovered that I could not unlock the door because of a sticky lock and/or tight door.  I took the handle and lock off.  It was corroded and the stem/spindle could not turn the lock on the door.  I put some fine oil on the stem and it quickly worked freely.  I reattached it and unlocked the door.  I think that moisture had seeped into the handle and stem.  It is probably a good idea to lubricate the stem periodically.  Also, I painted the lock position on the key lock with paint so that I can tell if the handle is locked and I don't pulled a locked door handle behind me.  I hope this story helps someone avoid the same problem.

Egress window

On my 2017 the rear window is the emergency egress. How ever, if the latch can work to shut it can also be opened from the inside by pushing it with some type of tool. Mine has a handle in the way but I can still remove the latch with a screw driver. I keep this 6 way driver and a square dive in the Scamp. Six way because it has 4 screw drivers and 2 nut drivers.

Door locks

My daughter just got locked inside her 2014 Trillium on the way back from picking it up in Tennessee. Her boyfriend was out on a hike and was able to unlock her but it happened again that night when she had to go to the bathroom. They eventually fixed it. New locks are available for $159 from Trillium.
