Tire pressure monitors

Does anyone use tire pressure monitors?  Where do you set your low and high pressure alarms?   I have a 16 ft Scamp.  I air the tires to 50 psi.

Good question. I had Tire

Good question. I had Tire Minder TPS  on my motor home, but since I've down sized to a 13' Scamp this year I don't have any at all. Maybe it's still a good ida to have them even for a small camper? I really liked the Tire Minder tps.

I have the Tymate TM527 TPS

I installed the Tymate system on my 13' Scamp and am still learning how to set it up.  I think a 7 psi variance either way should be about right.  At first I didn't think the Tymate system was going to work on my 2 wheel trailer, since it can monitor 4 tires.  So, I put one monitor on the spare tire for the Scamp and one monitor on the spare tire of the tow vehicle (since it wasn't being monitored by the tow vehicle's tps system).  It seems to work well so far and the pressure readings are accurate.

TST TPMS

TST on ours for a little over 1 year now, works good.  Guidelines for where to set the high and low alarms are in the instructions.  For tires set 50 psi normal-cold, 45 low and 62 high are about right.  The high should to be above what it gets to from temperature and altitude changes -- That's why the high is further away from cold-normal.

I have one on the spare as well.  It not only makes sure the spare isn't flat, but you can determine how much of the pressure change is due to ambient temperature and altitude, and how much is from  the temperature increase that a rolling tire has. Typical real-life example: Lets say all the tires were 50 psi cold in the morning before heading out, and now the rolling tires have risen to 58 psi and the spare is 54 psi.   The rolling tires are 4 psi above the spare, so that 4 psi is due to rolling friction (and possibly some brake heat) and the remaining 4 psi is from ambient temperature and/or altitude.
