Tankless water heater

Hello y'all!

Long time reader, first time poster. I have been living full-time in my 2003 16' Scamp for over 2 years. I tow with a Tesla Model 3. I have been able to visit 48 US states in the past 2 years! My hot water heater went out and I want to replace it with a tankless heater. I am overwhelmed with all of the available replacements options. Has anyone replaced their tank with tankless? What tips/tricks should I know? Any brand recommendations? Thanks in advance!

Presume

Just as a question. Would it be an electric Instant like for under a sink/ Point of use ???  Any propane would require ducting.  I believe some are using such but any of the higher volume output are almost always powered from a 220 Volt source and not usually available

I want a tankless water

I want a tankless water heater that runs off both electric and propane. Would love to find one that I can just place in the old water heater hole. It will be used for kitchen faucet and bathroom faucet; for all daily living hot water needs. Kind of like this:

Tankless Water Heater

The Precision looks like a good choice. Mostly it looks to be installed on larger trailers, but seems to replace the 6 gallon which is fairly standard. I'd get the spec sheet on this one and the one currently used in your 16 and compare the dimensions to see how much customization would be required. It might be a simple weekend job or quite a bit more involved once you compare to the existing.

There is an install video on the Precision link that I added to your post that's pretty good.

I know some have installed tankless, so hopefully we'll hear from someone that has one completed.

Tankless option

I'm looking to replace the water heater in our 19 and would love to hear from someone who actually installed a tankless heater.  We have one in our home and like it overall.  The one negative is that you have to run water longer before you get hot water. A certain volume of water has to pass through the unit to trigger the igniter then it takes a little more time for the thing to fire completely up, meanwhile, a good bit of water goes down the drain.  This could be a real downside if you're conserving water. I'm curious if the RV versions of tankless tackle this issue.

Scamp's tankless water heater vs electric/gas water heater

Was wondering what you decided on the tankless.  I'm about to get a new 13' Scamp and see on my order they listed an "on demand water heater" vs the gas/electric I thought I was getting and currently have (and like) in my 16'. Any one have experience with Scamp's on demand water heater?  I'm concerned to about the amount of water needed to get the water hot.  Just in general, I wonder how well it works.

I don't see their tankless listed yet in the Scamp parts store.

I went with the tankless for

I went with the tankless for the 13 foot I'm picking up in September.  We put in a tankless at the house, and love it.  At our house, the shower and sink close to the water heater gets hot water almost immediately.  The fixtures farther from the water heater take longer, but no longer than it did with the old tank type heater.  The water in the "hot water" pipes is cold after a time, and no matter what the source of hot water, it's got to flush the cold water out.

Many years ago, I had a portable on-demand tankless water heater for camping that had a hand pump and ran off of a propane cylinder.  It worked great.  It doesn't take much water at all--just whatever is flowing  through the cold water system.  I'm hoping that removing the tank will also get me a little more storage space in the 13 footer.
