My owners manual mentioned absolutely nothing about the shower trap clean out. For those of you, like me, who have a shower, it requires a trap clean out. Follow the drain lines out of the pump, and a small cap in line with the hoses is the trap clean out. It may take a large pair of channel locks, however, grasp lightly as the cap is plastic. Once removed, a tubular screen may be taken out and rinsed off. Mine took fingers to reach up and grasp gunk out of, as this has not been done by the previous owner. It's easy and fast to do, so get that trap cleaned out, so your floor will drain faster!
I discovered that screen exactly the way you did. I thought the pump was not draining the shower sump as fast as I thought it should. The first time I needed to use a rag to get a good grip on the plastic cup to unscrew it, but the subsequent times it was easier. It does not have to be super tight anyway, the O-ring provides plenty of friction.
