Seeking 16' Scamp

Hi all,

We are considering buying a new 16' Scamp or is it worth seraching for a used one?

We want/need the #6 floorplan with shower and toilet in one end and side dining area.  What are suggestons for awnings, screen door etc. What options are must have?

Seems like the larger refrigerator would be a must as we would be on the road 6-8 weeks for our first trip.

A real mattress vs cushions under a table realistic?

None found in Mi. with a web search.  Several Tear Dops, but those are too small.

Will want heat and A/C.  Heat is a must after 25 years of living and working in Central America.

Anything below 70°F requires an extra balanked on the bed.

Any guidance from you experianced folks will be very welcome.

new scamp

I am getting a new one same as you want, with almost the works. I am going to pick the standard option package which includes the marine toilet and shower for about 14,200.00. i am adding onto that option package air,furnace,bike/cargo hitch reciever.  I was waiting till i could get my TV wired up, it was done today will call my order in tomorrow.  Any thing that i wanted in the used department was 10 years old and 75% of new. For those prices i`ll opt for new. Good luck, i`ll let you know about the final price and options.  Carl

Tnx

Thanks,

I have also noted that he asking prices of the few used ones available were near the new $.

Now to determine what we "must have" vs optins that may not be too important.

New

I bought a new Scamp 16 with layout #5 last year. The awning is really good. It deploys so much easier than my old 1996 model. It's cost is high but if you don't get it up front you will have a tough time trying to install one later. I also got the shower. I never use it. It's not in the way and it may add resale I don't know. To me it is just one more thing to make sure it is winterized when the time comes. I only wanted one propane tank on the tounge. If I feel I need more for a longer trip I'll just pack another in the truck. I went with a standard model to cut down on tow weight as well. I had a 5th wheel delux and I like the differance I have now. We use a memory foam topper for the bed and a double sleeping bag (>50 degree)with the two outboard sippers pulled down leaving it zipped across the bottom. This way the top never falls off to one side or exposes your feet. I have the furnace as well as AC and fantastic fan. I should have got the bicylcle hitch from the factory. It is priced right because they reinforce it with additional support.

Think it though before making the plunge.

16 Scamp MI

Welcome to the clubhouse!

There are several used 16's listed in MI currently.

Used vs New is always a decision one must weigh and decide.  Pros and cons for both.  It is a really good idea to settle either way on what options are "must haves" for you and what is optional and could be done later or not needed. Once you know that list it becomes easier to compare pricing and make a decision.

Used scamps

Greg was super helpful in helping me find my 2007 rarely used scamp! Heading out tonight for South Carolina to get it! It will be in our driveway Thursday night! And with patience and time, we got a gem of a trailer with all the options we desired in a new one.

Ok, done, my 16 Scamp will be

Ok, done, my 16 Scamp will be ready Sept. 29th 2014. side dinette/ shower/toilet/ air cond./fantastic fan/furnace/ HW heater/ screen door/ cable hook up/ rear bike, cargo receiver. I was going to have it delivered,  but figure i would turn those funds into a vacation and drive up to Mn. from SE Pa. and camp my way back. I figure that way i will know how it handles when i back into my own drive way. Carl

Congratulations

Great news!  Good to see the delivery times are not too far out for a new order. I think the pickup and road trip is a great decision and will be a lot of fun.

Delivery

I had mine delivered at Cabela's in Dundee Mi. I live in Ohio on the Pa. line. Camping your way back is a great idea. Consider the cost to drive there factoring in your gas milage and turnpike fees. Remember to allow for a trailer in the fees when returning. You can get rates from the turnpike websites. The fellow that delivered mine came through the upper p. of Michigan so as to avoid Chicago, about twenty extra miles but worthi it to him.

Long delivery time

Just learned that it willbe late Sept or early Oct. before I could pick up my new one if ordered today!

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

The sales person there also suggest NOT gettign the extra water tank as it will be not so great on towing and add a load more woeght.

Is the step useufl?

New unit

Clouds,  yes get the step.  I also recommend getting it wired for cable and a TV antenna.  I also highly recommend you get an outside AC plug.  I got a second 12V plug in mine also mounted above the side dinette.  I went and got mine myself.  I then stayed overnight in a local campground so I had time to check things out and was there in the morning to go back to get any adjustments taken care of before leaving the area.  I did not get the microwave.  Bought my own.  They will give you the mounting brackets if you ask.  I got a Magic Chef for only $50 on sale at Mills Fleet Farm.  They have stores all over that area.
