Scampin the Utah Parks

Any of you have RV places you really liked when visiting the 5 parks of Utah?  We are going in May and need to make reservations.

Utah Parks

I so wish we could travel west of the Rockies, but my wife has 5 years to retirement. Once she retires she wants 30 days in the Yellowstone Park area. We would love to travel in Utah, Arizona, California, New Mexico. Some day...

Utah Park Camping

We have done quite a bit in Utah and have some favorite campgrounds. FYI, most all of this is on our Resources-Campgrounds page in SOI.

Let's start with free or near free, as Utah has a ton of BLM options:

Free campsites in Utah

Of course, you can reserve directly in the state and national parks

Utah State Parks

National Parks

For Arches and Canyonlands we always stay in Moab UT.  There are great campgrounds and BLM options for both, but we like the town of Moab quite a bit.  4th of July is an awesome Moab experience!!

KOA is nice but is on the S fringe of Moab and can't really walk to town conveniently.

Canyonlands RV Park - Our favorite because it is in the heart of town and walk to everything.

ZION Canyon Campground - We have been to ZION quite a bit and the campground in the park is crowded and no utilities. Just outside the gate of the park we found a really nice RV park - Zion Canyon Campground right on the river with full utilities and you can sit and look at the park campground. Walking distance to everything in town as well. You can cover Bryce  Canyon on day trips from here and not move over there if desired.

Bryce Canyon - if you feel like going over to Bryce to stay we'd recommend Ruby's Inn just 1/2 mi outside the park gate. The Bryce campgrounds in the park are nice as well.

Hope that helps a bit.  Great trip and area to visit for a month or two.

Good Info

Good topic.  I live in Utah and am planning on hitting the parks this summer with the fam.  Never to early to start planning.

Goblin Valley

Add to your list Goblin Valley S.P. It is small, but a very neat place, a little out of the way, so no crowds.

Dead Horse Point State Park

Another beautiful Utah State Park is Dead Horse Point.  If you are in the Moab / Canyonlands area it is definately worth a visit.  The campground takes reservations, and has a few first come sites.  Electric only with little fresh water available; fill your tank at Moab.  The view from the point is beautiful.  Also a good place to stay while exploring Island in the Sky part of Canyonlands.  Some photos from my last visit.
