Scamp tire blow out

Hi All Scampers.....

We are just wondering if you have had any problems with a Scamp tire blow out?   We were traveling west this year with our 2015 Scamp and had a blow out on out passenger side tire.   This was our 3rd blow out!
 Thanks for any info....

Tire Blow Outs

I blew out two tires on the Interstate coming back from Minnesota.  I have a used 16-ft Deluxe.  The tires had some miles on them.  I replaced them (C load) with D load tires.  I am currently on a long trip and the D load tires are working well.  Has any one tried wider tires on Scamps?

Regarding wider tires, yes --

Regarding wider tires, yes -- running 185/80-13 on our 13'.  They fit fine, more here at https://scampowners.com/forums/18580-tires-13

More on Blowouts

We had three on a trip a few summers back.  Older tires on hot pavement.  Check the date codes and keep them properly inflated.  We also upgraded to load range D.  Follow the Scamp pressure recommendations and have them balanced.

Never had a blowout

But Due to all the stories that I heard, I changed tires. Take it to a scale and be sure you are not over loaded. The original Scamp 16’ tires were rated for 60 MPH max. I had a long trip planned so changed to US made 14”, load range d, rated at a much higher speed. They did not fit until I added a lift kit. I have gone back to 60 mph because I get 2 MPG better economy at that speed.

5 years max

As was already stated limit age to 5 years max and always pressure at 50 or recommended goes a long way. In hot weather slower can be your friend. a plow out can be terribly destructive and dangerous

Blow outs

I have never had one on my Scamp, but once on our motor home and once on our fifth wheel.  Ha!  You get two for one when that happens $$$$$.  Lessons learned:

--The tires that come on any RV are usually the lowest rating to get the job done.  Upgrade!

--Replace them AT LEAST every 5 years, 4 is better.  Expensive, but accidents can happen with blowouts.  Plus, with a Scamp a blowout can damage the fiberglass, also expensive to repair.

--Slow down in extreme temps and stop often to check how hot your tires are getting.  Our fifth wheel blowout happened on a very hot afternoon.  Duh!  I kept noticing all the RVs stopped alongside the highway that day...as soon as we had our own blowout I realized why.

Had one in the Tractor

Had one in the Tractor Trailer way back when.  Didn't have power steering.  Was standing up and holding that steering wheel with all the strength I had.  Went from the right lane into the left lane almost instantly and heading toward the median strip .  Got it back over to the right shoulder.  No fun at 65 mph in a loaded tractor trailer without power steering! Took a while to get my heart out of my throat!!!angry

Tire failure road game

There are many road games to keep kids entertained on the highway, try this. try to go one mile on the interstate without seeing rubber tire parts along the road.
