Scamp smells moldy

Hi everybody,

i looked at a used 2009 Scamp this week and it smelled moldy & musty. Would that be caused from a water leak? The rest of it looked ok, just the smell. Also, do Scamp windows fog up from a broken seal? Thanks!

Moldy Smell

Hi Bob,

What area of the country did you look at the Scamp. We don't see that here in dry AZ, but PNW trailers that have been closed and stored for awhile can be subject to that. I would suspect if the trailers sat for a bit that it could have some leaks.

Scamp windows

To my knowledge Scamp isn't using double pane windows or offering as an option. Single pane windows have no seal to break and fog between the panes of glass.

Musty odor

Not every Scamp that has a musty smell has bad floors but every Scamp that I  have replaced the floors in has had a musty smell. After replacing the floors with the new wood and recently cured resin the trailers end up smelling like a new trailer. I'm in the southeast near the coast so things stay moist here all the time. When ever look at trailers with a musty smell I pay close attention to the floors. If the trailer has been setting for a while you can get odors from dry plumbing traps if you have a grey water tank. Also Like Greg mentioned if the trailer is stored outdoors and you have big temperature swings because of the sun shinning on the trailer you can develop mold in your cabinets and compartments due to condensation. It  best to store your trailer with the cabinets open and the cushions propped up.
