Scamp Awnings

Looking to see if anyone knows of options for an awning other than that sold by Scamp (Fiamma awning).  We need to replace (unfortunately) the Fiamma that came with the Scamp so am looking for some other options if they exist.

My original awning from Scamp

My original awning from Scamp is junk! Will not retract into the aluminum housing. I use 2 straps to hold it in place as far as I can retract it. The new crank out awnings seem nice, as I viewed them at Lanesboro at the Scamp gathering. At some point we shall replace ours.

Dometic A&E Awning

It's difficult to get the legs on the A&E awning that came on our 2011 Scamp 19 back into the awning holder, and the knobs that tighten the legs are awkward to deal with since they drop out of easy reach when extending the legs.  For ease of extending and retracting quickly I liked the Fiamma awning that came with our old Casita much better, though a few pine needles or bits of debris were often enough to keep it from retracting fully.  Before our last trip I added awning leg supports to the body of the Scamp like we had on the Casita which kept the dog from tangling.

I could never get the legs

I could never get the legs back into the holder, so I just got heavy duty straps with toothed buckles to,hold the awning up. The awning no longer goes into the aluminum holder. Poor design.

Design

Have to agree with you on the awning design Doug.  We CAN get eventually get our legs back in, but it's always an adventure.  When we traveled to Pennsylvania to buy our used 2011 Scamp 19 from an RVdealer, we asked them to deploy the awning as part of the general inspection.  They hadn't dealt with a used Scamp before, so it was quite a spectacle.   (The previous owner had put up some velcro straps on the awning case "just in case" - which we've continued to use.)  We still are enjoying our Scamp 19 though there are aways design quibbles. Alas, there's no "perfect" RV., but the search is always fun.

Awning

we are researching a new replacement awning. Something out there just has to be better. I saw crank out awnings of the newer Scamps while in Lanesboro, MN. Until then, we shall endure the poor design awning, as when it is out, looks and works fine.

Rain dribble

Still looking for an effective way to prevent sheets of water coming down the Scamp sides between the awing and body of the Scamp and flooding the area in front of the Scamp.  Use guttering on the roof to divert flow off to the side(s)?  I've also heard tell of using Wacky-noodles cut in half and wedged in the space as a solution.

I used PVC slicing it into

I used PVC slicing it into the right size to fit the gap.  So I've got a nice "u" shaped gutter laying into the gap between the trailer and awning, the length of the awning.  It is sealed to the trailer and awning with caulking.  It's been laying there for some 14 years now with no problems, sealed as tight as it was when I put it in.

Check Out Marti's Awnings

On an earlier post someone suggested Marti's Awnings.  They are so darn cute and look pretty sturdy.  She makes them to order.  Check out the website.
