Scamp Awning

I recently purchased a 1999 16 Scamp and have been unable to get the awning to release.  The wand is missing so I used a rod that fits in the release hole and was able to push against something that seemed spring loaded.  I was able to push it in but still no release.  Any ideas?

The electric brakes on this same camper squeal when activated and continue squealing for a while after being released.  The brakes looked good when the wheel bearings were packed a short time ago.  It has been suggested that dirt is the problem.  I may try spraying water on them.  Does anyone know if that would damage the electric brake?

Thanks!

Is the brake sound metal against metal grinding or just squeaky brakes? What did the magnets look like?

Squeaky.  I had someone pack the wheel bearings and asked him about the brakes and he said they look good.  I did get a look and there seemed to be plenty of lining left on the shoes.

My older Scamp brakes (the first two sets) kept loosing the little spring clip from the magnet.  The clip being loose in the drum would hang up and occasionally cause a squeal until it wore a deep groove in the drum or found another place for itself somewhere in there.

On my third set I drilled for a pin in the magnet arm to retain the spring clip.  The trailer now has just about 285,000 miles on its log book and other brake and drum changes and drilling for the pin has always worked.

A side note...I went thru several sets of brakes (we drive a LOT of mountain passes, I want to log every one I can before I get too old)...after several years I bought a Prodigy controller and rarely have to replace brakes now.

I'll need to pull the wheel and check the magnets etc. Thanks for the suggestions!

Pulled the wheels, blew a lot of dirt out with a leaf blower, put a bit of WD40 on some of moving parts, adjusted brakes.  They now work great and are quiet.

That pesky awning is next.
