Thank you, Peter!

How do you like your Gladiator when you are driving without towing?

Gladiator

Love it!   Prepare yourself.  It's still a Jeep but it's probably the most Fru-Fru Jeep I've ever owned with heated power seats and heated steering wheel and other features of the electronics upgrade package.   I have the Best-Top Sunrider top that replaces the freedom panels with a soft top that pops open and closed in just seconds.  The longer wheelbase for a jeep helps the ride but it's still a jeep with the bumps and road noise.  Kinda pricey too but seems everything is.  Have owned the Jeep for 18 months with zero technical/warranty issues.Good luck with your choice.

I pulled my 2004 Scamp19 with

I pulled my 2004 Scamp19 with a 2013 6 cyl. 4.0 liter Tacoma with no problems, mountains or plains. About 70k miles of towing in 8 years. Gas mileage goes way down in head wind, since the Scamp 5th has large frontal area! Last fall we got a 2021 Tacoma 6 cyl. 3.5 liter and only made one 2k miles trip this spring. Towing experience is about the same.

In both cases I mounted the Scamp hitch kit rails so that one rail uses two of the bed mounting bolts plus two bolts through the bed only. The other rail uses four bolts, through the bed only. That way the mounting design is sort of in-between. The two rails are linked together in the bed by two steel straps (2 x 1/4 inch cross-section), so the forces are transferred to the frame more effectively. All that required some figuring and some handwork, but it is good.

The Prodigy brake controller was in the middle of the console in the 2013, in the 2021 it had to go on the wall next to my left foot because of lack of space in the 2021 Tacoma - too much of the fancy stuff taking up room.
