Scamp 19' Axle

I'm looking at an older Scamp 19' 5th wheel.  If the axle ends up needing to be replaced, does anyone have any recommendations?  Torque axle, trailing arm?

19 axle

All S-19's come with trailing arm axles. The axles are 3.5K torque flex type axles. The were mfg by Alko( Bought out by Dexter.) Dexter and now Lippert. They are all special order with about 10 options to choose from and cost about $600 now. I use Dexter's because their Dist.(Redneck ) is fairly close and if picked up there is no shipping. The Flexiride axle is another option That axle comes with adjustable angle swing arms last I checked they were a little more expensive. The Dexter axle is a #10 Torflex  with a load rating of 2500-4000 lbs. most are ordered with a 3.5 K rating. When ordering make sure you get the bolt on bracket option. Inst. should run between $200-500. Going to the Scamp factory for an axle swap is the cheapest and fastest and a no brainer option for replacement if you travel in that area.

Axle

Eddie,

So are you saying my Lippert axle is the same as a Dexter? As I google axle info I see Lippert Super Lube and Dexter EZ lube and wonder if they're one in the same?

Axles

Dexter bought out Alko about 5 years ago. Scamp used both axles in the early days. The Dexter axles had a square tube and the Alko's have a 3 sided tube. At about the same time  Scamp started using the Lippert axles. Lippert  is a company that seems to be buying out smaller smaller RV mfg. but I know of no connection between them and Dexter. I do know someone had issues with bolt patterns on the bolt on axle brackets between Dexter and Lippert. I pretty much stay with Dexter because of their reputation and customer service and  I can pick up the axle with no shipping charges. Also if you find a Dexter axle serial number they can give you the build specifications on the axle which comes in handy when replacing an axle. Dexter axles have tags on them and the newer axles are also laser etched.
