Sail cloth for headliner?

Hi all. I just got an old 13' recently and it seems pretty solid but does need some fixing up. The headliner has been removed. The insulation is still there. I have an old sail and was wondering if that might make a good headliner. It is made of canvas.

Or do I have that elephant

Or do I have that elephant hide stuff I am reading about. If so, what kind of tape to replace the old tape? And then just paint it? It looks like the pic didn't upload the first time. Lemme try again.

old tape

Scamp's old method to replace the tape was to use double sided foam tape and put talcum powder on the outer sticky surface. (Did not work very well.) The best repair is to clean off the old tape, fill the crack with ALEX sealant and dab with a damp sponge. Hardly noticeable if you paint your interior. I you need to run small wires up the wall you can hot glue them in the seam and cover them with ALEX.
