Roof Fan-Screws or Rivets?

I'm in the process of swapping-out a Fan-Tastic Vent fan for a MaxxFan Deluxe fan on my 2017 Scamp 16. The original owner replaced the original Maxx-Fan when it went south.

There is a rim, about 3/8" thick and 2" wide around the 14" square opening on the roof that the flange screws into. The screws go through this rim, and into the roof. Under the roof, I found the remains of drilled-out rivets that I assume held the original fan. This hole is located to the rear of the reinforced section of the roof where the AC would sit. The edges revel the roof thickness to vary between 1/8 and 3/8 inch. Is this adequate to support screws, or should I use rivets as was originally done?

Rivets or Screws

Hey Tom,

I always preferred screws when replacing my fans, however the glass is not conducive to doing it well with screws. I always glued some 1x2 furring strips around the inside of the opening and then sunk the screws through the glass and into the furring strips sandwiching the glass. This gives you a very rigid installation and also helps to keep the gelcoat around the fan area from spider cracking in the future.
