I'm confused about replacing acorn nuts (and rivets). Is the acorn nut attached to a rivet or a bolt? What is the procedure to do this job.
I actually need to replace all plastic washers and snap rings. What size rivets are used?
Thanks
Tom

Acorn nuts are used on both rivets and bolts. Scamp uses very few bolts in place of rivets but they do use them occasion. I found at least one on my new Scamp and the bolt was just long enough that the acorn nut started to unscrew. I have since put on a nylock nut (not too tight) and the acorn nut on top of that just for appearance. I hate to send you to a different forum but in this thread, Post 34 details my discovery of the bolt:

All the answers to your questions are on the net so please do some searching.
Here is Scamp HOWTO for replacing rivets:

Many people add a very little butyl to the rivet (or bolt), and a dab of sealant on the head of the rivet before putting the snap cap on.
As for rivet size, this will get your started:

You might have to use slightly longer or shorter rivets then what was originally used to account for changes with age, compression of the rat fur, etc.
Hi Tom,
There are several good Snap Cap/Rivet replacement threads in the Maintenance Table of Contents under the Snap Cap/Rivet topic that are very simple to follow. The Acorn nuts are simply held on by an assistant on the end of the rivet when you begin to pull it. Rivet sizes and amounts vary by Scamp model and you can simply order them from Scamp Trailers Parts dept or pick them up from a good hardware store. I find on most of the Scamps they are 1/8 and 3/16 various lengths which are fairly easy to determine when you drill out some of the different existing ones.
