Pump replacement and filter

I have to replace the Shurflo 2088 pump that drained the shower stall on my Scamp 13'. I've looked at the forum posts about this topic but am still left with two questions.

1. What pumps have people used to replace this pump? The new Shurflo model seems like overkill and there are much less expensive options. Do they work?

2. I read that there is a filter between the drain and the pump, but when I took my old pump off I did not see one. Can someone tell me where exactly it is, and what it looks like? A photo perhaps?

I can't answer the pump

I can't answer the pump question, but the filter is located near the shower trap, about 8" from the pump. The filter is available from Scamp, and is pictured on the third page of their plumbing parts section at their web site. The last time I camped I had to clean the filter as it was clogged with hair, and the shower and sink would not drain.

Filter...

If you haven't cleaned that filter, that's probably the problem.  If it's like mine:  Follow the drain pump suction line, the filter will have a clear plastic bowl that will unscrew with a screen inside.

Filter may be hard to open.

The first time I cleaned mine it took pliers to open. I now keep a strap wrench in the Scamp tool kit for camp site service.

Shower pump

I used this one on my 19: https://amzn.to/3OPU2zf

I can't speak to the longevity, etc. since I sold the trailer, but it seemed to be the ticket at a lower cost, It also had a sensor so that it would turn on when it sensed water in the drain if left on 24/7 and you didn't have to use the on/off switch. Not sure if that works well over the long haul or not.

Older Trailers

I currently have a 2016 19' that has the gray water pump and filter. I used to have a 1998 16' with the front shower/bath and it had a much smaller pump and no filter. After the small pump burnt out (probably due to no filter) I replaced it with the Shurflo and filter available from Scamp parts. I also thought the shurflo was overkill but I bet Scamp decided to use these pumps universally for the freshwater tank and the shower/bath drain.

I thought it might be helpful for you to know that older Scamps may not have the filter. I do recommend adding a filter cause it does keep the pump from clogging up with hair and other debris.
