Pulling side windows on 1990 16' scamp

Hi All,

I am in the process of pulling the side windows in my scamp to install new butyl tape. I have removed the screws and the clamp ring from the inside of the first window (above the sink) but am having a difficult time removing the window itself.  It still feels firmly attached.  I have tried to tap out the window from inside but it isn't budging.  I don't know if there are other screws or if the old butyl tape would hold the window that firmly in place.  Has anyone done this that could offer any guidance?

Thanks for your help!

Pry Method

Hi Kelly

Yes. I did this to our former 1998 Scamp 16'. We now have a newer 2016 19'.

The exterior side of my windows were installed by scamp using a thin black double stick foam tape. I'm guessing this is how they were shipped by the window manufacturer and Scamp simply did a peel and stick install followed by screwing the rings tight from the inside. The foam had failed in a couple areas and I had leaks I needed to solve. I removed each window, scraped off the old black foam, cleaned the window edges and reinstalled with butyl.

At first the double stick foam was hard to separate from the trailer shell. I had my wife push from a corner while I dug and pried using a putty knife and a small pry bar. The curved corners are a bit more solid and less likely to bend than the straight edges. Once the seal was broken the windows came out easily. The pry bar I used is also called a hive tool by beekeepers. If you google hive tool you'll see what I mean. But, any solid pry tool would work.

Black Butyl Tape

When you reseal the black radius frame windows you can get black butyl tape which is wider than the gray butyl tape. The wider tape is the right width for the black frames. I usually get it from Camping World, you have to get it from the parts dept. They don't put it on display in the store.
