Hi there Scampowners! I am a brand new scamp owner, as I recently purchased a 1980 13 foot model in great shape.
I imagine my wife and I will be boondocking more than anything. We live in the south and I'm trying to come up with creative ways to cool down in the summer.
I have come across some portable AC that work with ice in them, like this thing:
Seems to just plug into a USB, and I was thinking of getting some solar powered power packs.
Has anyone been successful cooling down their Scamp in the summer? Any thoughts on this idea?
Thank you all!
also concerned that this thing wont do anything for the heat and just make it more humid
It takes a staggering amount of Ice to absorb the amount of heat even small camper can stock up on. If you had an unlimited amount you could do it but a 20 LB bag will only last a couple hours and then need more. A short period to refresh only and at higher humidity possibly. If you plan to be mainly in the dry desert south west a small swamp?evaporative cooler might be helpful if you have a good source of clean low mineral water for it to work with. and a decent amount of electricity to run a fan. . We made a small 3,000btu cooler, Airconditioner. that is ducted thru the rear window( similar to a 5,000 BTU window unit with 4 inch tubes for in and out ) and even it is only able to keep up after the sun is below the trees. It is pretty hungry and requires close to 5 amps AC to run. It is not easy thing

The link includes positive testimonials from people in the south. Might work for you: modest cost; minimal electric draw; small size (6.3" cube).
