Newbie Bathroom/Sink Help

Hello!

(If this has been discussed before, please point me in the direction - I can't find it :( )

I have just started using the bathroom in our new-to-us scamp. I understand how to fill and empty both gray and black tanks.

I am struggling to understand what the correct procedure is for properly cleaning the sink lines, gray and blank tanks. We do not use the water from the sink for cooking or drinking. It's purely to rinse out the sink if we pour something harmless down (ie coffee, soda). This last week when the temperature was warm, we had a terrible smell coming from the sink and the bathroom. I did run the hose into the black tank after emptying it but would like to know what I should be doing at home to complete the process and maintain.

So sorry if this has been discussed ad nauseam. Thank you for these forums!

Good Question

The Gray tank will develop smells if water sits in it for any length of time. I dump the tank, fill it and dump it again to flush it and then add about 1/4 cup of bleach down the sink drain with water running and let that slosh around when towing until next dump. Seems to take care of it. You can use the same sanitizer down the gray as used for the black if one wants to.

grey deodorizer

Bleach is a good  solution if used sparingly and with a bit of water as stated.  There are also gray tank odor control products you could try.  I also find the gray can be as bad as the black in warm weather. I noticed there is a sink stopper that can be screwed in that may stop the smell back up?
