new to me 1985 16' Scamp

Hello All - I am the new owner of a 1985 16’ Scamp. It seems mostly well taken care of, though it clearly needs some work. It is missing the fridge, clean water tank, water pump and needs new axles. I have a bunch of questions that I have not sufficiently been able to get answered with trolling the forums.

  1. Should I replace the fridge for a direct replacement. It takes a 1.9 cu ft fridge though what I would really like to do is get a bigger fridge and put it where it goes on the deluxe model, that being the closet/ac cabinet. Then move the AC where the 1.9 fridge used to be. Has this been done?

  2. The clean water tank is awol, I’m not too worried about replacing it, though I would replace the 6 gallon hot water tank with a small tankless system. Obviously, I need to get a good water pump to do this.

  3. Oh, the axles...well, I know I want to give the Scamp some sort of lift as we will be taking it off road, though no crazy rock crawling. Just some rough dirt roads to get deep in the backcountry. I am planning on cutting the existing axle off and replacing it with a Timbren axle less system with a 4” lift and 14 or 15” wheels.

  4. The electrical system has definitely been hacked a bit. When I plug the shore line in, only the AC comes on, no lights but I suspect the 30amp fuse by the battery is probably bad. A 100 watt solar panel is on the roof connected to a Renogy charge box to the batteries (it has 2 linked behind the gas tanks).  I see the electrical box under the drivers side dinette seat but I have no idea if it is connected properly.

  5. The exterior is super dull and flat with no shine at all, seems like there are ton of products that can be used, and I am not quite sure what the best method is to get it gleaming again.

  6. I’ve already replaced the exterior side and tail lights with LEDS and it already has LED on the interior.

  7. Farther down the line would be to cut a new roof hole and add a fantastic fan.

Any thoughts on my plans are welcome. I’d love if someone local (Denver CO) has one that I could check out or who could help show me how things should be connected.

I'll try and upload some pictures later.

Thanks in advance.

Meguiars Premium Marine wax

Meguiars Premium Marine wax will bring back that original factory shine! I used it and after about 3 applications, it comes back very nicely. I also used a Griots Garage buffer for much of it.
