Massachusetts EZ-Pass

Just got a MA EZ-Pass.  No cost for transponder and not any monthly/annual fees.  Using it for turnpikes in PA, OH, IN, IL (on my way to/from Backus).  Anyone have experience with this EZ-Pass?

i have the OH version but i

i have the OH version but i believe they are all the same entity.  EZ pass owns/merged with all those other ones and it's one company.  The only time i found an issue was Florida with the "Sunshine Pass" which EZ Pass doesn't have a deal with, so you have to pay the fees to get one or do a one time visit fee.  EZ Pass has saved us hundreds of dollars already, and it saves time as you don't have to stop and usually the EZ pass lanes are faster.

The EZ pass group

I got mine via Illinois.  Florida is a problem, the Sun pass is used in most of Florida. Luckily I got trapped in the pay toll lane and did not run the stop.(It also covered a bridge in Kentucky.) I belief the system to count axles and adjust the cost accordingly if you are towing. https://www.e-zpassiag.com/about-e-zpass/where-can-i-use-it

I-Pass

Our Illinois I-Pass works marginally well in Indiana and Ohio but can be troublesome once in a while out of state.

Had it for years

I've had mine for years since I live here in MA. No problems using it wherever EZPass is accepted. Very easy to register new vehicles to it. Can set it to auto-refill. Very easy.

Private Individual EZ-Pass MA

I got the Private Individual EZ-Pass MA (2 axle vehicles) vs the Commercial Business EZ-Pass MA (3 or more axles) because most of the time I'll probably just be driving my truck on turnpikes.  So, what happens if you have the Private Individual EZ-Pass and are towing your Scamp.  Is that a problem?

not a problem, go to your EZ

not a problem, go to your EZ pass account, upload all your vehicles and there licesnse plates to register them with the eZ pass.  then add the Scamp and it's Licese plate number.  Put it 1 axel and you're good.

New Scamp no license plate number

Well, the Scamp is new, no license plate number yet, so can't register it.  Just wondered if that would be a problem going thru with my 2-axle transponder.

it shouldn't as long as once

it shouldn't as long as once you get the license number you register the vehicle on their online site on your account.  i did that with both cars and scamp and have never had an issue.  they deduct and then auto refill.   wonderful system.

Trailer EZ-Pass

Living here in NY, I've got the NY version.  Auto account refill at $25, never a problem.  I have a separate 3 axle transponder that goes on the windshield when I'm towing so I'm sure there won't be a problem.  Maybe that's no longer necessary.

I have had New Hampshire EZ

I have had New Hampshire EZ-Pass since the early 2000s and it has been great. It saves time and money. It recognizes automatically that you are towing and charges the right amount. The only problem was that after ten years plus, the battery was losing it and it got flakey at some automatic lanes. Last month we traveled from CO to VT and went through one of the manual (cash) gates in Indiana and were told that the battery is low, just hand it to the toll collector, who scanned the bar code and told us it got recognized OK. For the rest of the trip we set things up to be charged by e-mail and made it there and back. A replacement came by USPS a few days ago, cost about $6, plus postage. I just mailed the old one to NH to return and cancel (remove that transducer from my account). So, if you take any of the northeast or mid-west toll roads, get one and enjoy the convenience.
