Keeping rain out

Hi everyone!

Has anyone figured out a way to keep rainwater from entering when the windows are open?

We are especially interested in keeping rain from getting in via the small window over the stove which is a real problem when the window needs to be open for ventilation at night when someone is sleeping in the front bed(s).

Am thinking that maybe fashioning some kind of rain deflecting hood and attaching it over the window with caulk might work.

Any ideas would be most welcome!

Thanks,

Anne and Peter

Go on a search for a Maxx Air

Go on a search for a Maxx Air louvered vent, but I don't now if they made on for that size window.  But good luck finding one as they are not made any more - watch ebay.  You could have a awning installed over that window, but if the rain is blowing sideways from the front or rear of your trailer, it will not help.  Another thought would be to installed a Maxx Air Deluxe roof vent.  The "better & best" models both intake and exhaust air while keeping the rain out.  The "good" models only exhaust the air.   Their web page is "www.airxcel.com/rv/maxxair/products/fans"

Rain in kitchen window

Those sliding windows suck, if you ask me. I tucked a pool noodle between the awning housing and the roof to deflect rain splashes under the awning where we sit. My brother has used this trick for many years. It isn't exactly rain-prooofing, but it helps. We use 2-1/2 noodles (check the correct diameter for your set-up) and stiffen the pieces with a 6-8 foot  1/2" PVC pipe. Spray with silicone to help slide the pipe into the noodle. It's tough to get the noodles under the awning brackets where screw ends protrude into the space and the pipe reluctantly slides into the noodles, but it can be done with muscle and determination.
