Insuring a 1985 16ft Scamp

Does anyone have recommendations for companies that will insure an older Scamp model? Geico covers our truck, but won't cover our camper.

Thanks much,

Karen

GEICO insured mine

It must be the age of your Scamp.  They must think it is a high risk or doesn't have enough value.  GEICO insures my 2012 Scamp 16-ft Deluxe.  I hope they don't drop my coverage.  The woman that I talked to when I insured it said, "Hardly anyone submits an accident claim for a small trailer.  Most of our claims are like tree branches falling on them."

Thanks, I agree that it's probably the age. Anything over 25 years is considered an "antique" or vintage model.

We recently had an attempted theft of the entire camper out of our driveway in Oakland.... would be out a good chunk of change if it was stolen.

Attempted theft?

What did you have that prevented a "successful" theft?

I always fuss about losing my "Lil Critter".

Insurance

Auto policy should cover the trailer when it is hitched to the tow vehicle. You should only need the coverage for when it is stored or at the campground and unhooked.

We use USAA and it is covered on the hitch with auto policy and then a supplemental for unhitched time.

If insurer tries to value with NADA or some such and is way low, use the "Sold" archives at our sister for sale site for comps to provide them the correct valuation: https://www.fiberglass-rv-4sale.com/fiberglass-rvs-sold

Ins

Hmm.  We are thinking of buying a 1980 Scamp and we have Geico ins. I called and they quoted me $100 every 6 months to add the trailer to our policy
