My original dream was to full-time in a 13' Scamp. Unfortunately, those plans fell through when I realized I would always have my adult son with Down syndrome with me after trying a few different programs. Then, I sort of gave up for awhile. Then, I decided some things were falling into place that would still make my dream possible with a few adjustments. Was looking for a 5th wheel Scamp but gave up on that since the whole math thing with the truck height stuff seemed overwhelming and room in a truck seemed tight for the assorted characters that would be going along. So, now I am looking at the 16' Scamp, waiting for the right one to surface. I'm looking at the other manufacturers but not with a lot of enthusiasm. Scamp is the "classic".
I have been following both: http://rvsueandcrew.com/ and http://www.interstellarorchard.com/ The young lady at Interstellarorchard just put out a full-timing guide that I downloaded a couple of days ago. She did a really good job with the guide and it is very generic in nature so would apply to a lot of situations. Both of their blogs are really choke full of information for anyone interested in learning more about the possibility of full-timing.
So, I'm trying to put all of this together. Maybe I'll get frustrated and decide to pack it in and raise chickens but for now, I'm going to see if I can put it together.
Wanted to mention how much I appreciate everyone being so nice here as in some of the other forums, you'll get a couple of bullies in the forum, and they get so rude that others are afraid to ask a question or make a comment. Pat yourselves on the back! And Happy Scamping!
I've been considering full timing for quite awhile now. Was ready in 2008 but then the economy took a tumble and house prices fell dramatically. I'm just now giving it consideration once again. So I'm now on a 3year plan.
I follow RVSue and crew. I write the campsites of her's that interest me on each state map. I'm ignore the real remote sites as those don't appeal to me. Things don't frighten me, I'm not that type of person, however I really don't like the idea of be out in the middle of no-where by myself.
I'll have to try the other site.
Don't give up the dream.

Great idea marking places on a map that you would be interested in. I agree that RV Sue does go some really out of the way places. I like my roads to at least look like roads and not cow paths.

I will begin full timing this spring when my Scamp 16 is delivered and setup. My children and relatives speak supportively but I can tell they are apprehensive about a 75 year old man traveling alone. Members of the three forums I've joined have convinced me that,with using common sense judgement, full timing will not be an experience with daily threats. I'm looking forward to the next year and meeting some of the people I've conversed with on the web. Best of luck to you all in your travels!
Age really is just a number anymore and, yes, there are more limitations but as long as you accept them and adapt rather than deny them, it seems you can still have a life. A lot of people in KS are older and retired and they inspire me to do more with my life than sit behind closed doors and wait for death. Fear becomes a major factor but where can you be 100% safe? If there is that place, I would choose it but dangers are everywhere. You can be alive but not really living and I don't want to be in that state.
When I was working at New Horizons, factory direct sales of 5th wheels, there was a man in his 80s that ordered a 5th wheel. His children called to talk with the owner and ask the owner not to sell it to him. The owner explained that he didn't have that option but would talk with the older man. I heard some of the conversations that he had with the man and he sincerely presented the possibilities and questioned the man and the owner was a kind gentleman. The man wanted to do one of those missions where people travel and repair/renovate churches. He was a carpenter by trade. He picked up his 5th wheel and took off with it. We heard from him now and then and the only time he had a problem was when he stuck his slide into an embankment and someone got on the phone and talked him through it.
I find having turned 60 that I feel like when I was 20 again, ready to start a new beginning rather than just slowly coast into the ever after.

I with you Cathy! Me, having turned 63 and in June 64 is not at all a limiting factor. I am a avid scuba diver, bicyclist, ham radio operator, and we have a gym down stairs I use! We walk 3-5 miles each night, eat sensibly, and I feel in many ways as I did in my 30's. Age is not going to be a hinderance at all. Too much life awaiting me out there! Our Scamp will take us there!
