I am officially a Scamper! Well, almost

I placed my order for a Scamp 13 foot yesterday!  Yay! I finally made the decision and went for it. smiley The bad news is that it won't be ready till September 12 or there abouts.   I need a few of you to cancel your orders so mine gets bumped up LOL. I am getting the Standard layout 2 (front bathroom) and pretty much fully loaded.  I have not decided on A/C yet, but it will be prepped for it in any case.  I talked to Jim Coffland who was very friendly and a humorous chap. He said that when I get the call from the production manager when they start my trailer, I can add it at that time.

Jim said the orders are coming in fast and furious and that they have never been so busy. They even ramped up production a bit and still can't keep up. I guess that's a good sign for the company and its future.

My plan at this time is to keep the 13 foot for 4 or 5 years, sell it and get the 16 foot deluxe when I retire. Then I will be living in luxury LOL

Any opinions on the factory awning? I did order one, but I really wanted them to just install an awning rail, but they wouldn't. I have a Dometic bag awning on my pop-up that works well for me. I have also seen those hand-made canvas awnings that are very appealing.  I am leery of putting the rail on myself.

Congrats

Welcome to the clubhouse and congrats on the new 13 order!

The way I view new trailers is if it isn't a financial hardship to add something now, have it done when they build it. A/C is nice, especially if you are wanting to go South in the shoulder seasons (Spring and Fall) which is best time to hit some of those spots before the crowds. Awnings are always a good feature to have and the new awning Scamp installs is a pretty good one.

Keep us posted on the progress and your decisions.

Scamp Awning

The new Fiamma awnings are very nice and easy to operate. Scamp sells the awning for about the same price as you can buy one for. But they provide the brackets and mount the awning. If you buy one yourself later you you will also have to pay a high shipping bill for the awning and brackets. Bottom line if you are even considering an awning, getting it installed new is the way to go. It is a real PITA to jump through the hoops to do it yourself later.

On selling your Scamp later with a bag awning with bunch of rail mounting holes is not a selling point. I would say either no awning or a factory installed Fiamma awning would be the way to go. If you don't get the awning now you could take a vacation to MN and get them to put the awning on later.

Did you get the big bed?

Get all the options you can

Get all the options you can up front! They are for your enjoyment, and will also be a selling point when you wish to part with it. I even took our Scamp to the factory for many mods.

We all agree

Get the awning when you order,we didn;t when we ordered the Scamp last year, but we always rather regretted it,this year when we ordered the Casita we did go ahead and have one installed, better for them to do it then to try it yourself later. If you use it great,if not,it wont really bother anything being there

Yes, it takes 2 to install

Yes, it takes 2 to install the awning. The techs were very good at putting the cleats for the awning, where the bolts were behind cabinets. I would never attempt this after market. One important thing to remember about small fiber glass trailers is to get out of them! Under a awning, on your camping carpet, lawn chairs, small table.

Good to hear that people like

Good to hear that people like the factory awning. I will probably order the A/C - like you say, it would be a good selling point a few years down the road even if I don't use it.  Thanks!  Now to wait 203 days.... yes I marked up my calendars   cheeky   And oh, I got the smaller bed - it is just me, and I would prefer the counter space (I assume that is what you give up).

I am officially a Scamper! Well, almost

I'm almost ready to pick mine up in March. I did get the big bed because so many people are looking for a big bed.

Also, you may want to have a 120v plug so you can put a Microwave in later. $30 . Even if you do not use it..

I updated my order 3 time to get what I wanted.

good luck

RE: I am officially a Scamper! Well, almost

If there is a place for a microwave, I think they put the outlet there at no extra charge, at least they did on my 16, and I got my own microwave.  I would ask about that, even if you never get a microwave, its a handy place to have an outlet.
