Hello!
We would like to go to Buffalo National River this summer, but we are skeptical about a few things we have read. One being, first come first serve, campsites. Any advice on this? Would hate to make the 4 hour drive with our Scamp and not get a spot. Also, there are a lot of gravel roads that lead to the sites. How rough are these roads? Any other advice would be much appreciated! Thanks!
I have never been there, so no specific advice about that campground. We have had to camp at first come, first serve campgrounds now and then and it is a bit worrisome. Find out the check in time, and get there an hour or so beforehand. A couple hours early is even better--take a picnic break. Also if you can, go on a weekday vs. Thurs - Sat. The nice thing about a Scamp is they fit in the smallest spots! As for rough roads...I camped at a MI state park last year with an absolutely hideous old access road. I think it was 10 miles of really rough going! My poor little 13's interior looked like a tornado hit it by the time I got to the campground. On the way out I forced myself to go no faster than 15 mph on that stretch and checked everything after I got to smooth roads. Much better. A big motor home with a toad was checking all his connections, etc after driving that stretch too. Just plan on going super slow and on the way out check out your rig carefully.
