Hi,
Has anyone installed a Blue tooth brake controller and can give us feedback? We have a deposit on a new 13' Scamp (2021) and they're recommending the blue tooth brake controller. Not sure if we want to use the phone or trust the Bluetooth to work without issue. Can anyone recommend a traditional brake controller they prefer?
Thanks
Robin and Joe
.... can you apply the brakes in an emergency? If you have an emergency, you want to apply them quickly. Let me see, where's the phone, now enter the password, open the ap, hit the brakes to celebrate the crash. I'd pick the Tekonsha recommended for you tow vehicle / RV combination. Here is a big long video. He skipped the backup lights, I think you will want them for your new Scamp.

We loved the way you phrased it. To the point. So humorous-exactly what we were thinking. We watched the video. Sounds like that will be our new plan. Did you install yours yourself?

The first F150 came with the wiring in place and was almost plug and play, the F350 and the 2016 F150 came with the control installed from the factory.
I had an "event" last year in the mountains where I swerved to miss a car at the same time as the lane dipped. I felt the RV start to pull the Tow vehicle sideways, I hit the trailer brake control, and everything came back into line again.
I have a brand new 2020 Scamp and opted for the bluetooth brake controller. This is my first RV and first time ever using a brake controller, so I have nothing to compare it to. It seems to work just fine so far. Very simple to run. I always have my phone running and handy, so that is not a problem.
Update: No, it does not always work good. My brakes will screech at slow speeds and burn up the tires. I do not know how to adjust it and I cannot find any instructions or manual.
I bought a used 2014 Dodge Durango. It came with a towing package and a DrawTite brake controller. It is a basic brake controller but works great. I have it set perfectly just by pure luck. You hardly know it is there. It helps the SUV stop the unit but it doesn't drag the SUV. If I had not found a vehicle with a brake controller, I would have had U-haul install one. A good U-haul place should have much experience installing brake controllers and they sell them. When I bought my 16-ft Scamp Deluxe, I towed it home with my Dodge Grand Caravan and no brake controller. The Van braked the Scamp fine. A simple brake controller will do the job--you do not need to buy a fancy one. While I am plugging U-haul, I bought a great weight-distribution and stabilizer hitch with a smaller ball from Amazon at a terrific price. I couldn't change the ball because it was so tight and it was hard to get at the nut. I took the hitch and correct ball to U-haul and asked if they could change it. It only took him a few minutes with an impact wrench and a big socket to exchange balls. I offered to pay him and he said, "No, just remember us in the future!"
