Back from our successful 6 week xcountry

We had a fabulous time on our 6-week, 9,200 mile trip. Took a week to drive to Minnesota from our home in Connecticut, visiting family along the way. Arrived at Scamp June 18, 2021 to pick up our new Scamp 13'-layout 2-larger bed. We love it.

We camped first in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota-great spot.  Headed West through North Dakota, visiting Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center and Teddy Roosevelt's Ranch and Badlands of ND. Headed to Montana and saw Glacier National park. Then to Idaho-Twin Falls. To Oregon, visiting Crater Lake and our niece in Medford. Next, South to Redwoods and Willow Creek-meeting our son and his girlfriend. They camped with us as we headed South to Orland and then on to Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. Camped in Three Rivers for Fourth of July weekend with our other son and his fiance joining us. Afterwards we continued to LA visiting our son's house.

After a week we headed back East stopping in Las Vegas, Zion, Bryce, Arches and visiting a friend in Denver. After Denver we stopped at Woodford Reserve Distillery and The New River Gorge National park. Funny thing happened camping near The New River Gorge-a woman drove into the campsite with the exact same camper as us-she picked it up the day before we did. It was so much fun sharing stories and ideas.

We called in the morning each day to secure a campsite for that night. We had no problem at all the whole 6 weeks. We used various camping apps including Harvest Host and the Good Sam's Catalog. Our son did call ahead to get us in Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. Though Yosemite said they were full, only 1/8 of the total campground was occupied.

Did we have any issues with the camper? Yes ,but each time we called Scamp, they were wonderful and responded right away.

If you're planning a trip, We'd be happy to answer any questions.

That sounds like a wonderful

That sounds like a wonderful trip, seeing such beautiful natural wonders and visiting with family and friends all around the country.

I’m impressed that you took such an long trip without advanced reservations. We’ve been reluctant to do that since we heard that campgrounds would likely be full this summer. Oddly enough, for both trips we took in Wisconsin this summer, the reservation sites indicated that they were almost totally booked, and yet the campgrounds had many open sites while we were there.

I’m curious about what problems you had with your Scamp.   Our Scamp 13 is a year old, and so far our only problems have been a finicky tail light and the handle/lock came off the “kitchen” window.

Sounds like a fun trip

We have ordered a new 13ft large bed with bath ready for pick up this next week. We're in Los Angeles and we're going to pick up and return thur Canada to the pacific coast and down the coast. But with the uncertainty of border opening and some deadlines at home we just decided to have them deliver our Scamp. Sounds like you had a great trip. I'm also interested in what little problems you had on your maiden trip? Thanks for sharing. Richard

Lost response to issues

Hi,

It's so weird because I wrote a long email explaining about the issues to someone who asked before and now it seems to have disappeared. Though they saw it and responded. Well to briefly recap...

Our water heater never worked. We brought it to a dealer here in CT and they found it was a defective module. Scamp was great each time we called and supported us. The table leg broke and Scamp sent a replacement. The dead bolt on the door became misaligned from traveling. Joe had to file the striker plate a little, and it worked fine.

We love the Scamp. It's a perfect camper for us. Things happen when you travel. It didn't make us feel negative towards Scamp. They were great with us.
