aluminum belly band

Any suggetions on how I can clean/polish the aluminum belly band on a '74 Scamp?  Thanks!

Elbow

Lots of elbow grease and some Mothers aluminum/mag polish from the auto department or auto store.  But mask the fiberglass off as the gray/black residue can  really leave a mess on the white gel coat and maybe rubber gloves
