Hello fellow Scampers!
I am really hoping that some of you Scamp veterans can shed light on the various predicaments concerning our 1982 13'.
Problem number one is that the latch on the door is experiencing two problems: the first is that there is only one remaining screw holding the thing in place. The second is that it would seem that the holes where the latch mounts to the door are stripped, and I'm not sure how to mount new screws, since there doesn't seem to be anything for them to grab onto. If any of you have some insight into what we can do short of getting an entire new door, we would really appreciate it.
Problem number two is that when towing the Scamp, the little flame that keeps the Dometic refrigerator running keeps blowing out, requiring a restart every time we stop. I'm not sure if this is supposed to happen, or if it's a design flaw. Does anyone know? We learned that most RVers keep their refrigerators cold using LP gas while on the road, because using the battery on D/C drains it too rapidly. Advice?
Problem number three is that the fresh water tank is leaking somewhere near the back, probably at the connection between the tank and the hose leading around to the sink. Is it worth the trouble to pull the bench out and replace the water tank? Or is it possible to replace the tank without removing the bench? Any tips from anyone that has done this before?
I'm not afraid to tackle any of these projects, I'd just like some tips from more experienced Scamp owners before diving in blind.
Thanks ahead of time!
Number one: Can you put a nut on the inside? If not, can you drill and tap the inside lock and run the screw into the new threaded hole. This would also be a good time to change the outside part to a new one if you still have the stock 112 key, it’s just a garage door lock.
Number two: Scamp says always turn gas OFF before travel. It is my speculation that it is because the refrigerator will not stay lit if on the street side and they do not want to deal with it. Mine is on curb side and works fine.
Number three: Mine will fit through the hole in the seat, but Scamps very in design. Get this fixed first, many floors have rotted from the inside. I’d remove it, inspect it, and you may find it can be repaired. If not: https://www.scamptrailers.com/parts-store-cat-view/plumbing/10-gallon-water-tank-before-1990-detail.html
