Airstream Nest

Interesting!  A friend is looking in all directions for her retirement dream trailer.  She has a used 13' Scamp, and has been toying with the idea of a smaller Airstream.  So many things to consider regarding TV, cost, etc.  Anyway, she just read that Airstream bought out a small fiberglass trailer manufacturer, Nest.  Fun story on that too--the guy started out refurbishing Scamps and came up with a pretty slick 16' fiberglass design of his own.  He had been making them for a few years, base price around $30,000.  The Airstream version is set to roll out to distributors April 12th.  I did see one distributor has already posted the price on some he has coming in...$48,000!  I have no idea if this is a real price, or an inflated sticker price vs. actual selling price.  It is really cool, but at that price you could buy a new Scamp and a new TV!

Airstream Nest

That's a two year old story. Beginning on April 12, 2018, you can make Nest yours (but for the price of two 16' deluxe Scamps).

Factory Direct vs Dealerships

A dealership tacks on the price of transportation to their lot, plus a generous markup to pay for their business costs, and add to that the Airstream name and the price soars.  To me, having considered an Airstream and learning that if you want one that is "good", you have to get a 40+ year old one (before the company was sold),  the Airstream name detracts from the value.  It is cute and all, but........

Airstream

I just can't see spending that much on a 16' trailer personally, but to each his own.  I have friends who were puzzled by my little Scamp purchase too!
