tow vehicle

Living in mid-Michigan with an entire extended family-in-law working for GM for decades, I always drove GM products.  As I travel A LOT for a living, I always had 4WD or AWD vehicles, and I never traded them in with under 150,000 miles.  My last one was an Acadia (maybe a bit pricey) and it had 170,000 miles and no issues ever.  But.  I wanted a Jeep in my old age to feel young, so I got a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (the 4-dr version).  It is a good tow vehicle with the tow package.  I haul my husband's boat (around 2700 lbs) when we go on vacation.  Last summer I came over a hill on the highway and an accident right in the middle of the road...in the rain.  I had to stop dead from 70 mph.  I did it, no trailer brakes either.  When considering a tow vehicle, it is not always how much it can haul (the Jeep is rated at 3500 lbs) but how well you can stop.  Whatever you end up buying, set up your TV and trailer for max safety.  If I had a Scamp 16' I would get trailer brakes.

Experience is The Best Teacher

I'm glad you were able to save yourself in that situation.

If it were me, I'd have put brakes on that trailer after an experience like that !!!

Again, I note that I am surprised that Scamps don't have Brakes as Standard equipment.

Maybe, just maybe, someday Scamp will get smart enough to make brakes standard.

As Always,

Happy Scamping !!!

Braking

Yeah, I was following my husband who was towing our fifth wheel.  I don't follow too closely, and I saw him brake and then make a lane change.  I thought he just had a slow car but no, there was a wrecked van sitting dead in the lane!  I couldn't switch lanes, I had a car next to me.  I only tow it once a year for our "big" vacation, but I was happy I had great tires on the Jeep.

The option sheet for the new

The option sheet for the new 2017 Scamps list 10' electric brakes as standard. Is this the kind of brakes you are talking about?

Electric Brakes

Yes, the 10 inch electric brakes are what I am talking about, however, Electric Brakes are still shown as an option on all 13 foot Scamps on their Website.

As Always,

Happy Scamping !!!

I believe they do have brakes

I believe they do have brakes standard on the 16 and 19. I added them to my 13 when I ordered it. The best $200 I ever spent.

Scamp trailer brakes

I've been under the impression that Scamp includes trailer brakes on its 16' models as standard.
