Want a TV

I know many campers do not want a TV in their camper. I like news and sometimes newspapers are not available.

Do I need a TV that will run on 12v DC or can I buy a 110v  AC  DCTV and just plug it in to the 110v plug in my (ordered) Scamp. Sorry to be so ignorant on this matter, but new to 12v DC Camping.

I see very few name brand TVs that are AC/DC. I have had good luck with Sony and Samsung. I figure a 19" will sit on the sink cover in my future 13' Scamp.

Any help would be appreciated.

TV options

Mark,

Several options and depends on how you will camp. If you will predominantly have hookups then you can get a 110 unit to plug in. (Your 110 outlets won't work when no hookups) When hookups are not available you can add an inexpensive inverter and still use the plug in type tv, you will need a 12v cigarette style outlet for the inverter. While this works fine when off hookups it is not as efficient as a 12v tv, so if you will be predominantly boondocking you would want the 12v tv from the get go.

TV's do take a hit on ur battery so if boondocking and running a tv you will want solar/generator to be replenishing the battery regularly.

I use a 110 TV and have a 12v cigarette plug to accommodate the 400w inverter when off grid. However, I have twin 6v 232ah batteries and a 160W rooftop solar panel, so while not as efficient as a 12v would be it's not an issue either way for me. I'm about a 50/50 hookups/boondocker.

Did you get a chance to review the TV offered by Scamp? We just went ahead and ordered ours last October with the TV/Antenna/Cable Option they offered. The TV is 12v and 110v with a built in DVD player. The 16 Deluxe we toured at the factory had it mounted (by them) in the corner over the rear dinette. You can also find the TV listed under new products on the Scamp website. (parts dept.)

JTST Scamper,

Yes, I did see the one they list. I did some research, even tho they could not give me the modle #. I just decided on a Skyworth SLC 1921 A  after reading about it on Road Truckers site. Thanks for your help.

Mark,

Mark,

It's also now an unlisted option for the 13 footer if you want to ask your salesman what it costs when they do the mounting and everything. Nick, my salesman, told me it was an option but I just use my computer so I didn't want it -- thus since it was unlisted I never saw the price.

Hoping your adventures are wonderful,
Sue
