MPG drop with pulling a 16' Scamp

What can I expect on an overall average in MPG drop when I start pulling the 16' Scamp with average conditions? Right now I'm getting 22 MPG with a V6 Tacoma. Will it drop down  around 15MPG ? I hope none more than that.

MPG

I have a Tacoma V6 and I average 21-22 mpg highway not towing. When hooked to the Scamp 16 and running open freeway at 60 mph I got 16.53 mpg. I just checked it this week. We ran across Ohio to Sandusky, 4th gear in cruz, no hills, some places gently rolling.  I had the truck loaded with Bikes and firewood. I'm thinking of adding Sumo spring helpers to help level it off a little. I use midrange octane when towing, I don't know why, I can't tell the difference when not towing.

Kilo, That sounds promising.

Kilo, That sounds promising. The best highway mileage I ever got was 25mpg through Montana staying at 50-55mph with some good Exon non-ethanol gas. I got 500.1 miles on just under 20 gallons used that time. Usually 21-23 mpg is the best I get for all highway.

What are the Sumo springs for? Does your Tacoma sag a lot due to tongue weight?  I was told my tongue weight will be about 200lbs. I hope that doesn't make the Tacoma sag in the back. I understand Tacomas are known for saggy ends with factory leaf springs.

MPG drop with pulling a 16' Scamp

We have a  ford escape V6 with a 16 ft Deluxe Scamp.  We averaged anywhere from 14-16.5 mpg on our trip from Bakus to Montana and back to Indiana.  without the Scamp we normally average - 24-26 mpg.  So we had a drop of about 10 mpg although it was a bit hillier than our normal drives.

Taco

Olive,

This is my third Tacoma. I like them, but like all things man made there are some things I don't care for. The springs in my 2015 are not on the recall list like the earlier ones. On my last one I installed Helwig helper springs EZ550. It was easy to do myself. They made a tremendous improvement noticeably when towing over RR tracks or raised culvert pipes. $53.00 included shipping from SD Springs. This time I will try the Sumosprings you can see them at etrailer here: www.etrailer.com/Vehicle-Suspension/SuperSprings/SSR-610-40.html. They are cheaper on Amazon. These too I can install. I had a Scamp deluxe 19' but let it go due to the weak springs, I wish I had known about the Sumo.                                                                         Like I said before I had a full load as well as the Scamp hooked on.

I don't have a Tacoma, but

I don't have a Tacoma, but our Dodge Dakota with the 4.7 V8 is probably close in power/size to the newer Tacomas. We get about 20 MPG solo on the highway at 70 MPH, and pulling our 16' Scamp heavily loaded (2,900 lbs) we drop down to about 14.5 MPG at 60 MPH.

Our Subaru Outback 4 cyl gets about 28 MPG solo, and drops to 18.5 towing our 16' Scamp lightly loaded (2,550 lbs)

For those that drive Tacomas, did you know there is a rear spring recall on some of the 4x4 models?
