Almost obliterated in a meteor strike

We arrived at our cabin in the White Mountains of AZ yesterday, only to be shaken almost out of bed at 4am this morning. Turns out that a meteor struck not far from us and lit up the night skies and shook the ground all the way down in Phoenix.

An inch or two alteration in the trajectory and someone would have needed to take over SOI.

Meteorite!!!!

Wow Greg exciting,

As you know, we spend many hours sky watching.  I hope to get as lucky as you with a close encounter some day/nite.  ;>)

Right now we are at Crescent City, CA on the Pacific Coast headed north ultimately into British Columbia and Alberta.  The coastal area has lousy sky for watching...rats!

Part 2 Obliteration Summer

I knew you'd enjoy the meteor close call, Bob!

Now for part 2 of Obliteration Summer:

We are under pre-evacuation orders from our cabin in the AZ White Mountains as the Cedar Creek Fire is heading right at us and about 15 miles away. We are prepping the trailer to pull-out and go head to a nice campground out of the danger zone if they call for full evacuation. Great to have a trailer sitting ready to go to Evacuate your home if needed.

This has been a summer to remember after almost being obliterated by the meteor and soon possibly running from an advancing fire.

Cedar Creek Fire

Really sorry you all have to go thru this!  Having lived and worked in the timber most of our lives, we know what a bummer forest fires can be.  They are so unpredictable!!!

Our fingers are crossed for you all.  Please, keep us all here in SOI informed when you can.

Fire Update

We are now 1/4 mile from trigger point for evacuation. Got the trailer all packed and we're heading east to camping ground outside fire zone. I don't know if we'll have any services so will keep you posted as possible.

Prayers out to all in fire zone's as there are a number of them burning around the country at the moment.  Be safe out there.

Smoke from fire

I hope you guys can get far enough away that the smoke wont be an issue from the fire. The valley here is rather filled with smoke from a fire in Calif.Just for something differant,we are heading out today up towards Wyoming.Hopefully we wont see any fires. Many people will be without homes with all the fires going on

Evacuation Update

We evacuated to Rainbow campground at Big Lake, AZ since Thursday. Not bad Evacuation digs!

Returned to our cabin today and while they are still battling the fire and a lot of smoke coming through White Mountain Apache reservation, Show Low, and Lakeside-Pinetop seemed in pretty good shape. Big Thanks to all the fire fighters and support staff that battled the Cedar Creek Fire this last week. While their work is still ongoing, it looks like they successfully saved a number of cities in Arizona's White Mountains.
