Ham radio in a Scamp??

Hi folks, I couldn't figure out where to post this so I put it here. I am both a life long camper-everything from  tents to motor homes and an avid amateur Radio Operator. I currently use a 13 foot Scamp so I can pull it behind my Jeep out on the beaches of the Gulf Coast. My other hobby is Ham radio-General Lic.KG5JPG.  I really want to us the HF rig when down on the beach.I can currently set up a VHF/UHF mobile rig with an extra Yagi antenna I attach to an expandable pole. But I am stonkered when it come to HF. Has anyone using a Scamp tried the Eagle ONE HF antenna? They designed it for Motor homes but I have a 2 " receiver on my Scamp so I go to thinking... I really don't want to depend on a fully freestanding tripod ( high wind and sand make for poor anchor)and there are often no trees where I like to go. Think Bird Island Basin on the Padre Island National Seashore. Any tips would be really appreciated. Moderator, please move this to the appropriate forum if you need to

Doug here, K0DRA, Extra class

Doug here, K0DRA, Extra class operator and owner of a supreme 16. I take my Yeasu FT 857D with me, tuner and power supply in a tidy carry all box. I use the Alpha vertical and anchor it well, no worries. Worked stateside and international. I frequent all bands so let's set up a schedule.

Hi Doug. I am working with a very inefficient G5RV right now and may not be able to reach out to you. I listen in on Daytime traffic net  7.285 in the morning, Good old Boys Group at 1700 weekdays 7.279 and various ARES groups in the Evening on 2 meter. Pick a band and freq and I will try my best to find you. Tell me more about your choice of the antenna you have why you chose it. am also looking at the

If was impressed with it's

If was impressed with it's performance at a ham fest. The tripod acts as a counterpoise and is very efficient. I am active on 40 daily, Brothers Net too at 7.192. Also 7.240, 7.265, 7.268.

Do you use this set up at

Do you use this set up at home too?? As I mentioned, I have a G5RV in an inverted Vee. Center is at 34 feet but both ends are quite low to the ground, no trees survived last Hurricane. good for fairly local. darn near an NVIS. Then I have an old LDG 19 foot Vertical that was designed for 20 meters but I have no room for any long radials so it doesn't work very well. would love to be able to actually get out and talk ot some folks, other than here in Texas or the Gulf Coast...

Gordon, thanks for that link.

Gordon, thanks for that link. I keep coming back to the Eagle One Vertical antenna. Not sure if I would even use the receiver hitch, but it  looks like fewest moving parts tht could still function as both portable for Scamp use and set up near full time at my home. I am trying to decide between putting it on the flat roof of the garage or setting up in the backyard (very small either way), decisions decisions. PG
