Switch cover

We are currently traveling from central Florida to Washington state via route 10 to So. Cal. then up and I accidentally turned on the water pump the other night, no damage but I want to avoid the possibility of any. I read somewhere about a protective cover for the switch....any ideas?

Thanks,

Shur flo

I don't know if Scamp is currently installing the new Shurflo pumps, but one of the new features of the pumps is if it is run dry it will not be damaged like in the past. I wouldn't think you'd want them running dry for a long time but just a short period will not hurt the current pumps. My guess would be they are using shurflo, but if you can check you'll have some piece of mind.

RE: Switch cover

IMHO the location of the pump switch is not logical, therefore I moved my switch to the cabinet under the sink.  Easy - Peasy to reach it while standing at the sink and it does not get bumped on while tossing and turning in bed.  I also added an small red LED light to show when the switch is on but you can buy switches with the LED built in.  If you are comfortable working with 12 volt wiring and cutting a little hole in fiberglass, then its a pretty easy project.  Everything was accessible but if you have the smaller (standard) fridge then I don't know how hard it is to get to the original switch wiring.

(I actually did not move the switch, I added a new one and I use the original switch by the bed to control a USB outlet now.  Makes it easy to control whatever I have plugged into the added USB outlet while in bed.)

Good Solution

Great idea, Gordon. I was always a bit puzzled by the Switch location. It was convenient to the sink, yet a potential issue when sleeping.

Many garbage disposal switches in homes are located under the sink in the cabinets and this makes perfect sense as a location to move the pump switch to.

Art,

Art,

I haven't done anything with the pump switch but then I don't sleep near it nor sit near it the way I have my camper setup.

Now the switches in front of the sink I have gotten very close to and probably would have bumped it for sure over time. So, I ordered online the clear plastic spring loaded receptacle cover to prevent me from accidently turning on my hot water heater. Maybe seeing what I did might help you in your search for a solution for your switch.

Switches With Covers

Single switches with covers are very common on the big trucks. Usually used for tandem axle lock up. The cover ( usually red) has to be lifted to activate the switch. These switches should be available at most parts stores. This seems like the simplest solution.
