Air conditioner recommended?

Hello Scamp Owners,

We ordered a 13' Scamp #2 layout with air conditioning and a roof fan, and are waiting for it to be built. We realized both of these options in the roof prevent us from having a rear cabinet due to space limitations. We live in Minnesota and will be camping in the midwest during the summer as well as traveling around the country at various times of the year. Do you recommend eliminating either the roof fan or air conditioner to add more storage space? Is the 3 speed roof fan adequate for cooling on hot days/nights? Thanks for your feedback.

I my personal opinion...

I would go with the a/c. I live in Maine and have added it to every camper  I have had and the new Scamp I am taking ownership of comes with it and I have no regrets.

I just removed mine and

I just removed mine and replaced it with a 12V fantastic vent - I don't do RV parks so why have something that requires electrical power

when none is available .

A/C, Depends

It depends on when and where you want to travel. I'm in Sebring Fl. now, cloudy, 87 deg. and 65% humidity. I have a light roof on my house and it is 107 deg. F. in my attic. When in Va. my camper stays parked in the barn between June and Sept. unless we camp with power and A/C. If you plan to go south of the Mason Dixon line in the summer I recommend an air conditioner. Most people in the south would not even consider buying a camper W/O an A/C. I camped in Mi. last July, low humidity, nice temps. boy was it nice until the return trip home.

Just order the two, rear side

Just order the two, rear side cabinets and you'll have your storage.  Maybe you did already.

I had air in 3 of my other campers..not for me

I had air conditioning in my 16 Scamp, my 2011 13 Scamp (got WAY too cold) and in a 2012 5x10 teardrop (again WAY to cold)....

When we got the call that a deluxe was available from Scamp, ....we were glad it did not have air or we would not have taken it......we just open the windows and exhaust the fantastic fan...the updraft is amazing. Also we were glad not to have a bathroom...as we do not like all of that moisture in a small fiberglass trailer. We typically shower twice a day and will walk up to the bath house ....no moisture..and no other "stinky" smells inside our trailer ...lol...if you get the drift.

The 2011 Scamp 13ft with air had the back cabinet...I wanted a fantastic fan in it because the air conditioning was just way too much overkill for a 13 ft...Scamp installed on in front of the air conditioner.

A/C or Fan

I recommend keeping both. I have a 2014 Scamp 13' with Fantastic fan and A/C and bath.

In hot humid weather you'll appreciate the A/C, and the fan is great other times. To keep rain from getting in fan lid cover while its open if it gets windy, add the Fantastic Fan vent cover "box" which prevents that. I have those on my motorhome also.

The added cabinet is small anyway and you can just keep the added stuff in your tow vehicle.  Better to order everything now than to modify later at high cost. Better for resale also.

We have a 16 ft. Scamp and

We have a 16 ft. Scamp and have both the Fantastic Fan and AC. I know its just a personal viewpoint, but for us, ALL the options make travel so very nice. Summer is our travel season for the most part and it the middle of America it gets darned hot! Both sides of the season the Fantastic Fan does a fine job. We also have a potty/shower. Who wants to get dressed at 3:30 a.m. to go the potty, a long and some times wet walk! No way! We love our shower and potty, and keep it spotless clean, and have the window that opens in the bath too. We have the teak shower floor so that makes it super nice too. Sink goes in very soon. Nice to have it all when camping, makes it nice.
