Door parts

I want to replace the hinges, handle and weather stripping around the door. Can anyone tell me the best place to order these parts. The door is not staying closed when traveling and I hope this will take care of the problem.

Parts

Best source for these parts is SCAMP Trailers parts dept.  800.346.4962

Tell them what you're needing. When I put new hinges, door lock and weatherstrip on my 81 it took quit a bit of shimming and adjusting to get it all set, but never had any more issues after that.

Scamp Parts door lock

When we picked up our 2002 unit, (used) we fought the door lock self opening all the way home, some 600 miles.  Not fun.

I ordered a new lockset from Scamp.  Not cheap.  But problem solved.  The handle, if not locked, drifts downward and self unlatches.  When locked, the issue was gone.  I also ordered new door hinge pins kits from Ian Giles in Canada.  $25 shipped to my door, I believe.  Easy install and a world of difference.  I also installed a new door gasket (Scamp again) and in total, I was very pleased with all the results.   I counted all this as wear and tear and easily fixed.

I also used very small, stainless washes as shims on the inner portion of the latch mechanism.  There are six screws, so buy 12 micro washers as you may well need two washers per screw to shim adequately.  $.22 per, IIRC

I just ordered inside and

I just ordered inside and outside door handles and hinge repair kits. I think I will also order the rib door seal. Hopefully I will be able to polish up the existing hinges and get this door working properly. Keeps coming open when traveling. It's 1981 13 footer.

My hinge pin kit I ordered

My hinge pin kit I ordered from scamp did not come with nylon washers or lube. Do I need these?

black gasket

Yes, it was indeed the thick black version from Scamp.  Excellent - almost impossible to find elsewhere.

The sticking part?  Well...... it was "mostly" successful.  Where I chose to make it stay put better, I used an adhesive.  Just a couple places, toward the top, on those pesky turns.

When at the factory we got

When at the factory we got many mods. One was a door seal, the new rubber door seal now being installed in all Scamps. The old foam was rotting. We had to use the thick plastic gasket he gave me to make the door close properly and get the handle to work. Seems it will be a permanent part of the door now. The rubber seal is much thicker than the old foam. So, if any Scamp owner does order the new rubber seal, definitely get that gasket or you will never be able to close the door!

pix of gasket

Doug, it would be very helpful if you could provide either a link to a photo at Scamp parts or a photo of your own trailer showing this gasket of which you speak.  Without a link or a photo, we don't really know what specifically you are referring to.  Thanks.
