Using a short piece of 3" x 3" x .188" steel square tubing and a 6" receiver tube 1 1/4" from Summit I welded the two pieces together and bolted them to the Scamp rear bumper. Now we can mount a bike rack behind the spare tire. If interested I can supply photos, dimensions and part numbers.

Bolt on solutions won't always work as the torque that a bike rack puts on a bumper can really wreak havoc. The one's I've seen over the years, weld additional support bars to reinforce the Scamp bumper. Anyone have pics of a Scamp Factory bike receiver on the rear bumper so we can see how they add it.
Also, be careful of unloading too much tongue weight which can lead to sway and very squirelly towing when loading bikes or other items to the rear bumper. Sometimes need to counter balance loading and put some heavier items in the front of the trailer when towing with loads on the rear bumper.

In addition to 2 LP tanks, we have a 84 pound group 27 battery on the tongue. We are also getting a electric tongue jack. So we have ample room for putting bikes on the rear hitch as a counter balance. Will let you know how it handles as we travel with bikes this season.

greg if you look at #8 middle pic on this topic you can see the frame cross member between the two outside frames my 96 13 ft does not have anything at all on the rear between the frame sides just the bumper is there a reason for that because i would like to add a cross member and put on a hitch just like the pics show mine is made of aluminum but same thing bolted to frame and and bumper do u see any reason i should not add a crossmember here up against the plywood floor thanks
You are so right Greg. At the factory they welded not only to the bumper but at two places on the frame forward of the bumper. Any other method can surely twist the bumper out of shape and render it useless.

It appears that there are two "L" brackets on the top of the receiver. One is toward the campers front, and it is welded to the frame and receiver The other is welded to the bumper on the inside, near the camper's body. The receiver is also welded to the frame bottom where the receiver extends forward, underneath the frame member and at the back of the bumper. Some of this is within an inch of the wood floor and/or fiberglass so it would be somewhat difficult to do "post production." I understand that Scamp does it while building the frame if that option is selected. I did see a possible alterative here that requires no welding.
I just wanted to add that it is possible to install a welded receiver tube similar to factory if it doesn't have one. A good welder would have no issues. Simply lay the added crossmember down flat which gives room to make welds below the floor on each side. Then it is welded to the stock bumper just like the factory does. Prime and paint and you're done.
