Instead of using a hacksaw blade to cut the screws holding the front of the bench, use a "Multi Tool" with a metal cutting blade.

I have found the "Multi Tool" ( mine is battery operated ) to be one of the handiest tools I own. I have used it for so many hard-to-reach and unusual projects like this one.
