I have a Scamp 13 that has been in my family for about 20 years. My mother recently went into a nursing home and i inherited it. She wanted to insure it but was told she would need the serial number and it should be stamped on the frame near the hitch. We couldn't find that and don't know what year it was made. I have done several modifications. Rear window AC, under counter TV/DVD, Winegarde antenna, microwave. I added an awning with removable walls making it a side room. It has a working fridge and front bunk beds. I would really like to have a bathroom. Has anyone had success converting beds to bathroom? My door is sagging. The plywood floor is good except a small area under the fridge that will be fairly easy to repair. The square chrome bar on the hinge side of the door is still there. I will look closer at the hinges and bushings. I understand that there at least two types of axles used. I'm not sure yet which one i have but it seems to be lower than most of the other Scamps I have seen. I saw how to check if the axle is still good but it still seems to have plenty of wheel travel. Maybe I'm just in denial and I'll soon be paying a visit to the factory for a new axle install. I've been looking over the site. Many of my questions have been answered. I am going to have many more. I'll be in touch.

Thanks, in advance

Matthew

Scamp 13 Mods

Welcome!

The table of contents in the Modifications section has a shower buildout for a 13 which is basically what you would need to do.

Scamp year?

1984: Black frame radius windows were installed. 1986: Rat fur interior was installed. The VIN should be on top the frame rail on the door side next to the hitch. I had a 77 with no stamped VIN but it did have the sticker inside the frame near the hitch. What does your title or registration paperwork say?

No stamped VIN. No sticker.

No stamped VIN. No sticker. No papers. In Kansas no tags are required for trailers less that 2000#. The interior walls are covered with white neoprene wetsuit type material. Maybe if i got the serial number off of the fridge that would tell me when it was made. Really doesn't matter.

I read the bathroom installation thread. Very interesting. Definately going on my to do list. I think I'll use a tankless propane water heater because i'm not always plugged in. Before I do that i have other more important priorities.

As for the axle, I have moved past denial and am now in the acceptance stage. It needs to be replaced. I would like to see the factory but it's 600 miles away. There is a local shop that specializes in all types of axles from the smallest sub-compacts to trailers and semi trucks. They will be able to help me out.

The sagging door is still a mystery. The floor is not rotted and the hinges seem OK. If the hinges were worn wouldn't you be able to lift the door up to the correct position? It lifts up about 1/4 inch, which is not nearly enough to make it right.

I'm still reading. More later.

The hot water heaters today can be propane, ours in our 2015 only uses propane but there are some models that run either from electric or propane,We dont always plug in either. That was the nice thing about having small trailers in Ks,we lived there for years no tags under 2000 pounds. You are going to enjoy getting out with the scamp, have great trips
