Thanks for the info Joe. I will tell him, dont get the trailer till Oct 29th but want to have everything in place by then at least in our minds...Now my minds off and running on what needs to come out of the Scamp and take with us,for pickup on the Casita so we dont have to run right back home lol...Have that list pretty well made, thats the easy part and still have to go get pictures of the Scamp in storage and get it listed
Oh my! We are sure glad you posted that link Joe,we went and looked at them and since they do not show that on any of the papers that the factory sent us we were shocked to see that back end! wondering if it looks as bad in person as it does to us in the pictures :-) We had just made up our mind for sure that this is what we were going to order, that it fit our needs perfectly till hubby saw that back end..We knew we could tell with the door,we wish the 16's had the straight door but had came to terms with that and the fact that the back window doesnt open. What really needs to be done is to suck it up and drive the 1200 miles to the factory and see one in person,we know exactly what the scamp 16 looks like but there again,is the problem of the top ac.We love our little 13 with the bath its just a tad tight. We are paranoid about keeping what ever we get in inside storage at the storage bussiness since having our T@b trailer stole from one sitting in out door storage from a locks gated storage place and we dont really want one sitting in our side yard,.Thank you so much for posting that link to those pictures
We did go look at the Escape and they do look very very nice, but we think we will stick to making a decission on either the 16 Casita or Scamp..Who would have thought it would be this hard of a decision for us lol
OK, I'm butting in on the conversation to ask if there is a noticeable size difference inside the trailers between 16' Scamp/Casita and 17' Casita? I have just always wondered and this looks like my best chance to get the answer.
I also read that Escape orders are full for 2016. The exchange rate is making the big difference as I looked at the schedule for a stick trailer, Taylor Coach and they are booked through until 2017.
I work diligently to buy US made products and it a job and takes shaking the bushes in many instances but I have a handful of manufacturers that I buy from and am never disappointed.
Cathy,I think that the main differance in the head room in the 16ft casita is about 3 inches shorter. The reason we started looking at the casitas over the scamp simply come down to things we personally like and dont like about each one,,our main concern{and only to us} is we dont like the roof top air conditioners and the 16 Casita is the only one we have found so far that uses an inside ac. Hubby could put one in a new scamp, but then its up to him to start cutting away at the fiberglass to vent the thing, scamp is simply not open to anything other then the top mount...They are both nice trailers, the casitas have a fiberglass bottom shell under them
One really good thing i can say on the closet ac on the 16' casita is that the hot exhaust air is vented out front thru the grill and completely separated from the fresh air intake which is located on the curb side and underneath...... this way your not sucking hot air into the intake and the new ac's they put in now have a louvered vent that swings out to direct the air conditioning towards the center aisle.
To me that roof air conditioning directs too much air down over the bed when trying to sleep it annoys the heck out of me so i close off one end to limit that. My wife loves that breeze on her though
Earlene: Scamp has an open bottom (Not encased in fiberglass marine grade plywood like the casita)....Now this is just my opinion. I like the open bottom because the wood is always breathing and could dry out if wet...... the casita being completely encased wood if you get a leak from say the kitchen sink or the bathroom then the water is trapped inside and has no way to dry out so rot could form much faster....rain from the road does not really splash up that high
We are leaning alittle more towards the Casita only for that fact about not having the roof Ac.Tho Im a woman and I am like your wife in the fact that the cold air blowing down on me is not a problem,ha. We would like the larger fridge that the Scamp offers in the 16 but thats not as important to us as the bottom ac unit, and tho hubby could put one in down there on the Scamp, theres just something about buying brand new and starting to cut holes in its belly. I guess one has to give alittle on certain things to get whats really important to each couple:-) Aboout the screen door, also we love ours on our 13 scamp but again, that is something that we can have built and put in,I think it would look as good as the one Scamp puts in.I havent cooked in the scamp and other then making coffee in the mornings I havent used the stove much and we've not used the shower but both are nice to have if we ever decide to use them. If we could take the best of each brand and put them together I would be one happy camper lol. Joe do you happen to know if Casitas come with a receiver on the back bumper? and where the grey water tank is? Thanks again
No receiver on the back but there's a place called Orbital works that sell the receiver especially built for the casita.... If you need the link i could look it up. The gray tank is about mid ship under the casita
Not sure if you've been to either of the casita sites but the link below will get you there and i go by the same "Joe Z" username

The ones that are stepped up in the rear are the 16' models.... the ones that are the same height fron and rear are the 17' model
another way to tell them apart is the 16' has a rounded aircraft style door while the 17' model has a flat door

You should really look up the Escape...... The exchange rate is around 25% right now. Reese and Tammy (the owners) build a first class trailer.
It doesn't hurt to look and they drive it across the border from canada in Washington state for free or to your house for an additional fee
Just a suggestion of course: but with over 10 years of working on these trailers i've seen most all of them
I like the step up on the casita 16' as the rear end never drags the road but that's just my preference to the place i go.

If you want to try and find a fairly new used one try this site as i have used it quite often and it's only fiberglass trailers
